Sweating My Way Into September

This week was an odd one with the holiday on Monday and my trip to San Diego on Saturday. I don’t have much to share, but I’ll recap my week for consistency.

My 10 minute beach vacation after enjoying fish tacos at Pacific Beach.

Sweating My Way Into September

On the last day of August I went on my first outdoor bike ride since April. 🫣 The weather was amazing with a note of briskness in the air. We added what locals call “the Superman hill” to one of our usual routes. We had to start it from a dead stop at a traffic light, but I powered up—huffing and puffing at the top. My husband usually just turns around to get back to the bike path, but I did not want to ride straight down a steep hill on a busy road, so we wound through neighborhood roads to make our way back.

After all that, I took a power nap!

On Monday I sweated my way into September with a triple workout day.

First, I started week 2 of the Pump Up The Volume 5 strength program doing Andy’s 20 minute full body class.

Then, I took Scooby out for a ~ 5 mile run.

Due to a Garmin fail on my part I don’t have the full stats

My favorite teacher was on the schedule as a sub for a midday class, so I also went to Corepower yoga.

This filter really sees the seam in the mirror!

After all that, the rest of my week was pretty routine. I kept up with the Pump Up The Volume classes on Wednesday and Friday, did one Peloton ride and one treadmill run.

Friday I took Scooby out for a 3.95 mile run. I did my strength workout first and headed out at 6:00 am, but it was still dark for my first mile or so. 😧

The humidty was back but it was still on the cool side

Saturday I took Scooby for a walk before heading to the airport, and did a lot of walking once I got there. The United App estimated that it would take me 45 minutes to get to my gate, but luckily it only took 25–not counting my pause at Starbucks. 🤭

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

Is your September off to a good start?

Ha, I love that “Superman hill”!
Powering up from a dead stop sounds brutal. Props for taking the safer route back instead of bombing down the steep hill – and yes, a power nap afterwards is absolutely earned!

Yay for getting back outside for a ride on Sunday! And don’t you just hate it when the light turns red at the bottom of a steep hill?

I hope you have a good week in San Diego. Bummer that you had to fly out on the weekend, though.

  3. Hope you are enjoying your time in San Diego! I’m sad that biking season won’t be happening for me much longer. Good job on the Superman hill! Our hill has the nickname Kamikaze Ninja Squirrel on Strava 🤣

So you’re in San Diego now! I hope you get some time to relax (and not just ten minutes) while you’re there. Sounds like you had a pretty great week with nice weather- you made good use of the day off on Monday.
Your bike ride sounds nice- I don’t think I would enjoy Superman Hill though!

Holy moly, 45 mins to get to the gate? I’ll never complain about Dublin airport again! Good for you they were wrong! I hope you’re enjoying it in San Diego.
Good work with the workouts this week!

  6. Wow Dulles does have some of the longest airport walks but 45 min seems really crazy! I clocked it once and it was a mile of walking. Hope you have some nice weather in San Diego!

I am 100% NOT about cycling down steep hills so I’m with you on this.

How is Scooby feeling? He looks extra handsome in your photos.

The Monday holiday absolutely threw me for a loop. I wasn’t a fan.

    Hope San Diego is beautiful!

  8. Been there, done that with powering-up a big hill from a standstill. I had a very similar experience at RAGBRAI a couple years ago. Yikes! I bet it felt great to be back on a bike!
