Join Me At The January 2026 Coffee Date

If we were having coffee, I would ask how your holiday was and if you received any special presents. I didn’t ask for much this Christmas, but I was glad Santa came through with bright new Tiems.

And, yes, I did wipe down my bike after seeing those splats!

If we were having coffee, I would tell you how I’m adapting to the lack of Starbucks at work. I figured out how to fix my own Americanos by making a double espresso with this machine and then adding piping hot water from the insta-hot faucet—yes, we have a well-equipped office kitchen.

It’s actually not bad.

Speaking of coffee, my other big gift was an espresso machine for home.

Lots of ways to fix a cup of coffee!

If we were having coffee, I would ask if you particularly enjoyed any year-end wrap ups from your favorite apps/companies—or if any surprised you. A few years ago I received one from the ParkMobile parking meter app. Instead of inspiring me to … what? park more? … it just creeped me out about all the data they have.

Maybe others complained because I don’t think they sent out recaps since.

If we were having coffee, I would ask if you have made any New Year’s resolutions, chosen a “word” for 2026, or set any big goals. My main health-related goal this year is to improve my sleep habits, including going to bed earlier.

I’ve realized that means I have to stop working earlier, which is harder than it sounds—there is always one more email I want to send.

I also need to get a vacation or two on the calendar. We’ve been eyeing a hiking trip in Ireland for late spring, and I’d like to get to the beach in late summer. If my daughter makes her move to Florida, there also could be a trip or two down there.

I don’t think I’ll top last year’s international trips, but I didn’t have any of those on my calendar this time last year, so who knows!

Love your coffee setup! Double espresso at work and a home machine too, very impressive! 😄 I bet you’re saving a small fortune not buying Starbucks every day, that would be a 2026 statistic worth calculating.

Fingers crossed you get that Ireland hike and some beach time. Let’s see what 2026 will bring you!

  2. Darlene S Cardillo says:

I do have an espresso machine but I haven’t used it in a while… Starbucks kcups when I work from home and the real thing when I don’t.

If your daughter moves to Fla maybe we can coordinate a meet-up. We haven’t been successful for NYC.

    Happy New Year!!

  3. Debbie says:

A hiking trip in Ireland sounds beautiful! I hope it works out for you!

I’ve never chosen a word for the year, but this year I do have a motto for my workouts – quality over quantity – it just sort of popped into my head when I decided not to chase miles on my bike any longer.

  4. Marcia says:

That is quite a home coffee bar! We have one big trip on the calendar so far but I sure could use a beach vacay about now. Maybe I can do some of my hip recovery in a warm place over the winter, who knows? I’m not sure why the Park Mobile people thought sharing your parking stats was a good idea. Haha!

  5. I am all for more sleep and truly believe that is so important! As you know I am all for more travel! We have a few fun trips planned for this year as well. Hiking in Ireland sounds great!

  6. Michelle says:

Love your coffee set up! I keep saying I want to pick up an espresson machine – please let me know how you like yours.

Our plans for Spain got sidelined last year so we’re hoping to make that happen. I also want to return to Sonoma this fall for a little wine tasting adventure.

  7. Jenny says:

I might have already asked you this, but where in Florida is your daughter thinking of moving?
I like how this was a coffee-heavy coffee date. And, I’m laughing at the year end wrap up from the parking app. Um… I mean why would you really care about that??? Plus I agree it’s a little creepy.
Yes, I also need to GET MORE SLEEP. Part of it is I don’t get in bed early enough, but also when I do get in bed, often my body doesn’t cooperate. It’s a good goal for 2026.

  8. Happy New Year! My big theme for this year is consistency. There are so many healthy/good habits that I want to get back to and I know I just need to work on being consistent. Going to bed earlier is a big one for me too!

Love those cycling shoes! My husband bought me new hiking boots which are working great so far!

  9. Your goal of more sleep is a good one (I definitely need to work on my sleep habits). That’s quite a coffee set-up you have there! My youngest worked as a barista (when in college), so she became a bit of a coffee snob, LOL. She asked for a cappuccino machine a few years ago, and she uses it all the time.

  10. Renée says:

Happy New Year Coco! I had a great holiday as Tina (@crantina) decided to come and visit me from Calgary! It was a great distraction – both of us lost a parent last year and neither of us were particularly looking forward to the holidays. We had such a great time after we both had a good cry about our loss and grief.

Loving your coffee setup! I made a wee suggestion to the hubs to set up a coffee corner in our little sunroom – y0u should have seen his eyes light up and the wheels start turning in his head!

No resolutions for me, but I do have some goals that I mentioned 0n the blog today. Just really wanting to get my running life back really.

    • Coco says:

I’ve been surprised how much my husband is into the new machine. I think it’s the engineer in him that likes to play with all the settings.

  11. I’ve been working on sleep, too! It’s tough to change long standing work habits.

I love the new coffee set up!

I have no resolutions again this year. I like the idea of starting fresh every day!

  12. Jenn says:

    Happy New Year!

I got a pair of Doc Martens (next up? Piercings!) and the most gorgeous sweatshirt, embroidered with the faces and names of the pugs.

Look at you with all your coffee machines! I love that!

  13. Farrah says:

It’s so interesting how many things got “wrapped” at the end of the year — I liked my book ones, but it definitely did put into perspective how much information these companies have on me. ._.

If you do end up going to Ireland, I hope you have tons of fun! I went last late-April/early-May + it’s so pretty there. :] So much green + flowers!
