Jet Lagged Runfessions

I feel like I missed November since it was summer in Australia, but here we are at the last Friday of the month. That means it’s time to head over to the runfessional at Marcia’s Healthy Slice to cleanse our souls soles before we head into December.

Jet Lagged Runfessions

I am finally almost recovered from jet lag, but I runfess it hit me hard this week. I had to prioritize what little sleep I could get over running, and barely had time for a short strength workout before my first conference call of the day—which I thankfully was able to take from home. My November Garmin data shows how my travel impacted my workouts, but I runfess it was worth it.

I did a strength workout most of the blank days, but since I got home on the 19th, it took a few days until I had the energy for a run or Peloton ride.

I Pelofess I was able to keep up my daily streak despite skipping a day en route, but I had to manipulate my phone to get credit for November 6th (we left on the 5th to arrive on the 7th). My plan was to listen to a walk as we hightailed it to our connecting gate in SFO after midnight east coast time—which I did—but I forgot that my phone reset to local time, so it counted on November 5th instead the 6th. Luckily I realized that, put my phone back on east coast time, and had time for a 10 min standing barre class while waiting to board.

Phew!

My workout time took a hit with all my travel, but again, it was worth it.

Down 13 hours from last month!

I bookfess that I barely read a chapter of my book on my long flights. On the way over, I worked most of the way from Dulles to SFO and slept most of the way from SFO to Melbourne—I slept or dozed for 12 hours out of that 16 hour flight! On the way home, I did a bit of work on the 14 hours flight from Sydney to SFO, but then got sucked into Severance and binge-watched that instead of trying to sleep. I regretted that choice when we landed at SFO at 6:30 am, but managed to sleep a few hours on our flight to Dulles.

We’re going to have to subscribe to Apple TV to watch season 2

For better or worse, my jet lag was so bad this week I resorted to reading in the middle of the night and finished my book—Guilty By Definition. It’s getting rave reviews and I really liked it, especially having read The Dictionary of Lost Words (which is only tangentially related by setting).

Jenny, I think you’d like this one!

I runfess that I had to drag myself out of bed to take Scooby for a Thanksgiving run. It had been in the upper 60s on Wednesday, but was in the low 40s with a “feels like” temperature of 39F when I headed out at 7 am. Quite a change from the weather in Sydney, but it felt fantastic.

I hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving!

Do you watch movies or read on the plane?

Oh my goodness, well done on keeping that Peloton streak going! Your manoeuvres made me laugh. Only you would be juggling time zones, airport sprints, and a standing barre class at the gate just to keep the chain alive.
Glad you’re enjoying your Scooby runs back home again!

  2. Michelle says:

Love your dedication to keep your Pelo streak alive!

I don’t sleep well on planes so I usually binge a show or movies. I have watched Severence yet but hear it’s a good one.

  3. Darlene S Cardillo says:

Wow. Can’t believe you kept your streak alive.

    Thanks for the book recommend.

I can never sleep on a plane. Usually read or watch a movie.

  4. My Pelo streaks are not very consistent. I didn’t realize, until after midnight last night, that I’’d surrendered my most recent streak (again). Oh well, I’m not getting compensated for any of the streaks, so not a big deal. I’m just sacrificing the bragging rights, LOL!

  5. Jenn says:

Oh, I hope you overcome the jet lag soon!
I much prefer to read on flights. It helps keep my brain occupied so much better than watching something.

  6. Cari says:

I’m not a TV or movie person, but found myself watching to and from Athens. Not sure where that came from. Not Jenny but thanks for the book recs.
NIcely done on the phone tweaking to get Pelo credit!

  7. Marcia says:

I always plan to read on long flights but I’ve done some serious show bingeing on flights to SA and to Dubai. Whatever works, right? Glad you were able to get some sleep!
