Home Spooky Home

After a few weeks of back-to-back travel it was nice being home for a full week. I’m traveling again on Halloween but am glad my neighbors have their decorations uo early because I’m loving all the creative spookiness.

My favorite spooky yard 👻🎃

Home Spooky Home

I really love how my neighbors go all out for Halloween. Some yards have huge inflatable ghosts and pumpkins, some have purple porch lights with flying ghosts and goblins projected on their garages. This pumpkin head-skeleton-mummy-child on a swing is the spookiest—especially when I came across it on a dark-o’clock run!

Our decorations are pretty sedate—we have witches’ cauldrons full of skeleton bones on our porch, and skeletons hanging from our lamps—and the squirrels destroyed our little pumpkin.

Within a few days they had eaten through the bottom—maybe for the seeds?

Weekly Run Down

I kept up with Coretober except I accidentally skipped Allie’s 20 min class when I took Thursday’s classes instead. Sure, I could have taken her class on Thursday but I took a new 10 min class instead. #sorrynotsorry, I’m making it work for me. I also fit in some other strength classes, easing back in after a few weeks without doing much in hotel gyms, Peloton is rolling out new Halloween classes now, but I got a jump start on my Halloween badge with a few spooky—and silly—classes from years past.

Sunday: Core + 5.0 Scooby Miles
Even after spending most of Saturday afternoon on the sofa, I was still tired from my week in Chicago and slept in until after 7 am—I had to wear a hat to keep the sun out of my eyes!

I guess our little lamp skeleton isn’t very spooky

Monday: Core + LB Strength + 20 min Halloween Ride
I really liked this new glutes and legs class with Ben and bookmarked it to keep in regular rotation. I’ve only taken a few of Bradley’s rides, but this class was great with a playlist based on spooky movie soundtracks—and the theme from Scooby D0o!

Tuesday: Core + LB Strength + 3.,3 Tread miles
I didn’t feel like running in the dark, so I took Scooby for a walk, warmed up with some short strength classes, and hopped on my tread for a fun Earth, Wind and Fire run with Jess King.

Wednesday: Core + UB Strength + 10 min tread walk
My legs were really sore, so I opted for an upper body day and rouneded out my workout with a 10 min walk on my tread before hopping in the shower.

Thursday:  Core + LB Strength + 4.8 Scooby Miles
I figured the days of dark o’clock t-shirt weather are coming to an end, so I braved the dark (with my headlamp). First, I warmed up with one of Katie Wang’s new classes—and it was perfect for that. It starts and ends with a few minutes of glute brings, with a deadlift-squat-curtsy lunge sequence in the middle.

Katie’s class is another one worth bookmarking!

Friday: Core + FB Strength + 30 min Halloween Ride
As soon as I started Camilla’s class I realized why I hadn’t taken it before—it’s in Spanish! I understood nothing she said except the countdowns—but the target metrics are displayed on the app so I could follow along that way. (She’s in a blue shark costume for any Pelopeeps who want to take it or avoid it)

Saturday: 4.0 Scooby Miles + Corepower Yoga
I set my alarm for 5:50 am so I could take Scooby out for a short run before heading to yoga, but sadly had not un-set the 4:50 am alarm from last Saturday when I had an early flight home from Chicago!  Luckily I was able to go back to sleep once I realized what I had done.

Still t-shirt weather!

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

Glad you got some home time.

We’ve had warmer weather here too.

Lots of wild decorations in my neighborhood.

    Kit cats. Of course.

  2. Our Halloween was last night here. I had the outdoor lights on, but only had two kids come knocking. Same for my neighbors. We surmised it was because we’re the new kids on the block and none of their parents know us yet, LOL. Oh well, I have plenty of candy to share with my adult friends 😉

    • Coco says:

Yeah, I’m sure parents are careful these days. I’ve never lived in a neighborhood that did trick-or-treating on a different day — October 31 or bust!

  3. When our kids were at home we went all in for Halloween and really loved it. The squirrels and chipmunks always eat my pumpkins! Enjoy our fabulous weather while it lasts!

  4. Jenny says:

No, I think it was a goblin that attacked your pumpkin (not a squirrel.) At least, let’s go with that explanation.
Sounds like you had a great week of workouts, and I’m sure Scooby was happy to have his running partner back.
My daughter will be going to a party on Halloween, and I’ll be home handing out candy. I put up some outdoor decorations- a little more than you do, but not quite at the level of your neighbors!- so we get a decent amount of trick or treaters.

    • Coco says:

You’re right! I’m sure it was goblins!

We’ve had from zero to 15 trick-or-treaters over the years—we’re at the end of a cul-de-sac at the top of a hill.

And… just saw your comment on one of my previous posts. Definitely consider NaBloPoMo! You can keep your posts short (if you want) and it’s really fun. You’ll meet all sorts of other fascinating bloggers, AND it will definitely distract you from you-know-what this month : )

If it weren’t for American running blogs I would completely miss that it’s soon Halloween. The Swiss (and the Europeans in general) are not that much into Halloween and it’s practically non-existent in South Africa.
I like it that way, although I have to say I do like how creative your neighbours are.
So your alarm works by weekday? I would always forget to reset the alarms like it happened to you yesterday! Glad you could get back to sleep!

    • Coco says:

The alarm app on the iPhone lets you set different alarms for different days of the week. Usually I have a weekday alarm and a weekend alarm, but I added an early Saturday alarm last weekend.

      I’ve always loved Halloween!

  7. Susanne says:

Honestly I would be stressed out doing all the travelling that you do! How nice for you with a week at home! Also for you to get some proper workouts done. Hotel gyms while they can be decent, are just not the same as being in our normal routine. The glute work with Katie Wang sounds good!
What a bummer about your pumpkin. Your neighbours’ decorations are really cool.

  8. Wendy says:

I’m amazed at all the Halloween decor this year! People are decorating like it’s Christmas. Some of the decor is a little creepy for me.

I’m sure it felt great to be home!

  9. Debbie says:

I love seeing the little children come to our door on Halloween night, but that’s about the extent of my Halloween celebrations. Some of my neighbors go all out like yours so I’ll have to highjack their front yard for a picture on Thursday. 😉 My favorite candy is Mounds.

  10. Bummer about the extra early alarm waking you up! My goal was extra sleep this past week and I slept in until 9am one day. Crazy! I did add colored film to our outdoor lights this year so we now have orange and purple house lights! A super cheap DIY which turned out pretty good.
