June Gloom Coffee Date

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that when I planned my trip to San Diego, I pictured nice weather with blue skies. I forgot all about “June Gloom”—the cloud cover that keeps things grey and almost chilly this time of year.

My hotel room view—pretty, but so grey!

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I was tempted to share this picture on Instagram as a ridiculous salad—it’s actually the garnish of the soup yet to be ladled into my bowl at a fancy business dinner, but the servers brought that out separately so we all had a laugh over our “salad” course.

If we were having coffee, I would ask if you look at nutrition labels? I was shocked to see that this little PB&J sandwich at the airport had 1040 calories, but then realized it probably was mislabeled, since a different one listed half that amount.

Or maybe this one had an extra 1/2 cup of peanut butter in there somewhere?

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I bought a new car! It’s basically an updated version of my old car, but they’ve made a lot of updates in the past 13 years ….

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that we were on our way to the dealership when I realized I probably would need my checkbook, so we had to go back to get it. There was a time when I kept my checkbook in my purse, but I rarely write checks these days. (And, yes, I did need my checkbook!)

If we were having coffee, I would tell you  it was fun and then a bit weird when my son and his wife were on-screen during most of an Orioles game last week. They had seats right behind home plate and in the perfect spot to be on camera, After a while it felt odd to be watching them when they couldn’t see us—we did tell them though!

That’s them right above the score box

we have so much gloom here. will it ever go away??
I do look at food labels – that would really put me off for a sandwich! but yeah it can’t possibly be right??
congrats on your new car!! we don’t have checks here at all. must be for about 25 years now?

  2. Debbie says:

If that label is correct, that sandwich also has a lot of sodium, 44% of the daily recommendation. At our age, I’ve also started checking the labels for sodium.

Congrats on your new car! Like you, I hardly ever write checks so I no longer keep the checkbook in my handbag.

  3. Marcia says:

I came upon my checkbook when I was cleaning out a kitchen drawer. I never write checks anymore. Enjoy your new wheels! We are BMW twins! Haha!

  4. Michelle says:

Congrats on your new car! Like you I don’t carry my checkbook any more either – if it were for writing checks to our contractor I probably wouldn’t even know where my checkbook is LOL

  5. Jenny says:

Ooh, a new car!!! How exciting. We write a check every once in a while, and at those times it’s a bit of a hassle to actually find the checkbook.
Really, June Gloom in San Diego? I thought San Diego had the perfect weather! I expect gray skies in the midwest, but not southern California.
I do look at nutrition labels, but more at the ingredients than the calories. Yes, that CAN’T be right! Ha, 1040 for a pb&j?

  6. Darlene S. Cardillo says:

I updated my 13 year old BMW. But the 3 series.

Sorry the clouds. Better than rain.

Those labels are scary. Esp the ingredients.

  7. Jenn says:

I haven’t written a check in eons! We do have checkbooks, but I can’t remember the last time I installed one.

    Congrats on the new car!

LOL about the soup garnish. I love when the soup gets ladled in. It’s so fancy!

  8. The checkbook! I opened a new account a few months back, and my first set of checks were free (150?). I’ve only burned through maybe 10 of them thus far, LOL. I use my debit card for almost everything these days, which makes balancing my account a mess because the dates of purchase seldom coincide with the actual “processing” date. First world probs! I’d feel the same way if I knew anyone in a vantage point at a sporting event…it would be hard to NOT notice them, and it would feel awkward.

  9. I write checks for quarterly taxes and our investment advisor. I think that’s it! I don’t even give checks as gifts except weddings occasionally any more.

    Nice wheels.

And – oh on the June gloom – I always forget that, too!

  10. Farrah says:

hahaha, I probably would’ve actually believed you on the salad if it was a super fancy restaurant. 😛

That’s frightening that the PB&J could have that many calories?! I really hope it was mislabeled!

Congrats on your new car! :]

  11. I do feel like we have had a lot of rain lately! That pbj has to be mislabeled! Although, most foods have way more calories than people think especially on the go. Enjoy your new car 🙂

  12. Congrats on the new car! I couldn’t tell what kind of car you bought until I noticed the logo on the ground. I used to keep my checkbook in my purse for my receipts but now I leave it at home. I use one a month to pay my rent. My landlord told me I could use Zelle but I still like to use a check.
