Enjoying A Mellow Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day! I will be enjoying a mellow Mother’s Day this year, but it’s much needed after a stressful week. I just saw my son last weekend and won’t see my daughter until our vacation in July, but I do plan to see my mom later today.

My Aerogarden petunias are still thriving!

Enjoying A Mellow Mother’s Day

I often mark Mother’s Day by getting plants for our patio flower pots, but I’m putting that off this year because I have a business trip this week and won’t be around to keep them watered. In the meantime, my Aerogarden petunias  continue to bring me joy with their untamed blossoms.

Another thing I will not be doing today is giving myself a facial and manicure with green and white press-on nails while enjoying a Starbucks beverage and cake pops delivered to me by DoorDash.

I guess the nails are Starbucks’ colors,
but even I have my fandom limits!

I just thought this image was so odd—including the bent match by the candles.

Weekly Wrap

My hamstring continues to mystify me, but generally in a good way. It is mostly quiet when I run, sometimes flares up later, and usually is fine the next day. Cycling doesn’t seem to bother it, but once in a while maybe it does. 🤷‍♀️ I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing and hope it keeps improving.

I chose my strength workouts based on the Breakthrough Crew Muscle Mayhem challenge, although I shuffled some days around and swapped out some of the lower body classes to suit my hamstring.

I also earned my 10K minute Peloton badge—I guess I’m on track for earning 20K for the year again, although my work schedule is cutting into my workout time more frequently these days.

Sunday: Upper Body Strength + 35 min Peloton Ride
I got a head start on Monday’s Muscle Mayhem classes and paired them with a Peloton Ride. I don’t usually take Robin’s cycling classes, but liked the playlist.

Monday: 1 mile Walk + 45 min Strength
I took a day off from cardio and braved one of Jess Sim’s 45 minute full body strength workouts. This class had a lot of core moves, and PT-ish exercises like clam shells and hip bridges.

Tuesday: 10 min Lower Body + 5 min Core + 4.5 Scooby Miles
I warmed up two short Peloton classes and then took Scooby out for a humid run.

Wednesday: Core + Lower Body + 25 min Peloton Ride
I did a little bit of everything, including one of my favorite Chase Tucker classes.

Thursday: Lower Body Strength + 3.7 Scooby Miles
I warmed up with the Friday classes from the Mayhem challenge —one of Hannah Corbin’s glute-focused barre classes and a glute-focused workout with JJ. 🍑🔥 Then Scooby and I braved the July-like weather for a short run.

Friday: Core + Upper Body Strength + 30 min Peloton Ride
RK’s arms + shoulders class had a unique format. She is known for her “heavy” classes, but for this one she cued lighter weights and a variety of biceps, triceps, and shoulder exercises. It paired well with Robin’s class which was indeed 10 minutes of triceps exercise.

Saturday: Core + 5.1 Scooby Miles
The weather treated me to temperatures in the upper 40s and my hamstring treated me to a 5 mile run! This run felt really good and my hamstring only whispered near the end. 🤞

Because of my travel schedule this week, I plan to do my virtual Lawyers Have Heart run on Friday. I’ll let my hamstring decide if I do the 5K or 10K distance. If you want to join me in supporting the American Heart Association you can still use this link to my fundraising page. ❤️ Thanks to everyone who donated already! ❤️

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

🌸 Happy Mother’s Day! 🌸

I was planning on gardening today but it’s raining now.

I’ll probably go to the gym. I’m still recovering from my vacation.

Glad to hear your hamstring is ok when you run.

    Enjoy your day!

  2. Jenny says:

A whispering hamstring sounds pretty good- I’d take a whisper.
I’m a little disappointed that you’re not doing the “Starbucks spa day” with the green and white nails, but I hope you’re enjoying a relaxing Mother’s Day!

  3. Catrina says:

That Starbucks picture though… it looks retro, like something out of the 50s. I agree that it’s a bit odd.
Good luck with the virtual Lawyers Have Heart run on Friday!! I have the feeling that your hamstring will let you do 10k. Let’s see!

  4. Thanks for the reminder on doing glute work with Barre, etc. My hammies have been whispering to me lately, and I know it’s probably because I’ve been neglecting general mobility/strength/PT work with them. My bad. Enjoy your Mother’s Day!

  5. I did get some planting in so my deck would lie nice tonight and I left the rest to the landscapers. I know my limits 🙂 Hoping we can break out of this rainy spell sometime soon. That is an odd Starbucks ad. Happy Mother’s Day!

  6. Jessie says:

happy mother’s day! how lovely to spend time with your mom.

Glad the hammie is behaving for the most part! Enjoy that summer weather!

  7. Melissa says:

Happy Mother’s Day! It’s low-key here, as I’m heading out of town for work. Good luck with the run! I have a 5k on Saturday and half marathon on Sunday coming up…

  8. Wendy says:

I’m glad to hear your hamstring is just whispering to you–is it like “pssst… hey you.” or “hey Coco, it’s me hammy”? Sorry…just feeling silly today.

    Happy Mother’s Day!

  9. Debbie says:

Happy Mother’s Day! I, too, had a chill Mother’s Day. Our local son has been traveling for work so we moved our celebration to next weekend. It worked great for me because I needed to rest today after yesterday’s bike race.

Your hamstring just won’t give you a break. Even if it’s only a minimal “awareness” it’s still a reminder that it’s not 100% healed. I really hope it quietens down soon.

  10. Jenn says:

That is such great news about your hamstring! I hope the trend continues!

    Hi Scooby!

That is a bizarre Starbucks ad. I wonder if it’s AI generated.

Temps in the 40s sound wonderful! I wish we still had that.

  11. Susanne says:

I wouldn’t put that colour on my nails either! Looks like something you’d see on a vintage car. Glad your hamstring is behaving ok-ish for you. Annoying with those whispers from it though!
I’d totally enjoy that July-like weather. We got the heavy rain this morning.
