New Running Shoes Runfessions

My church still is not open for worship, and I’m still mostly staying at home, but I’m willing to visit the runfessional at Marcia’s Healthy Slice in order to cleanse my soul soles. June has gone by pretty quickly, but there’s still plenty to runfess.

Thanks to Lacey and Miranda for the Fairytales and Fitness Friday Five link up.

The first Saturday in July falls on July 4th this year! Deborah and I hope you stop by the Ultimate Coffee Date before you head out for any holiday weekend plans. We’ll open the (link-up) doors Friday, and keep the coffee brewing all weekend.

New Running Shoes Runfessions

I runfess that when I purchased new running shoes via curbside pickup from my local running store, I got them from a slightly less convenient location to get the color I liked best. I don’t choose my running shoe based on color, but if I’m spending $100+ shouldn’t I like the looks of my shoes?

First test run in my new Brooks Ravenna

I runfess that after only a few weeks in my new Brooks Ravenna I am already thinking about buying new shoes again. There’s nothing wrong with the Ravenna, but since I’m mostly running on concrete sidewalks I am missing the extra cushion of the Transcend. I’m not sure I’m missing them enough to shell out $160 for them, though! I guess I’ll make an appointment at the running store to try on other models, but keep the Ravenna for the treadmill and shorter runs.

I runfess that the main reason I have been running more during these work-at-home times is because it’s the most efficient way to exercise when I’ve hit the snooze button too many times. If I don’t take Scooby out for a run, I have to take him out for a walk before I do my workout. That process takes about 1/2 hour , so if I’m crunched for time it’s easier to just go for a run.

My June mileage is on track to be even higher than May.
That October blip marks my DVT diagnosis.

I runfess that when I saw the schedule for the Peloton All For One program next week, my first thought was whether I can ditch work to participate in the running, yoga, and strength classes on Friday.

Then I realized Friday is a holiday, so I can do whatever I want!

Peloton All For One Schedule

The run-yoga-strength sequence could be tough, but we don’t have any other plans I need to save my energy for. Let me know if you’re going to try any of the classes!

I hear ya on running being the most efficient workout. I feel like I need to take my son out for walks 1-2 times a day just to get us out of the house, so most days I figure we might as well run. And I just haven’t been in the mood to do other types of cross-training workouts.

I think my feeling will change when the humidty gets high, but it usually feels deceptively nice when I first step outside, so I get lured into running before I realize it’s gross. 😛

  2. Wendy says:

I’ve been spending the majority of the time trail running and let me tell you, it has been wonderful! I’m having fun searching out new trails to run on. I may never go back to the roads!

I always said I never cared about the color of my running shoes, but Brooks seems to ignore that–I’ve definitely bought a few pairs based on the fun patterns they have!

    • Coco says:

Those new Brooks are cute! I think I need more stability than the models they’ve come out in … at least that’s what my wallet told me!

  3. Darlene S. Cardillo says:

Yes of course color matters. I’ve had the store order shoes because I hated the color.

I agree about Ravena. Not enough cushion.

No races but running because what else is there to do. But I am walking a lot. Need a Scooby.

No I am running in the same places as before. They are not crowded and everyone stays apart. I feel safe.

    • Coco says:

I’ve been running close to home for convenience, but I might drive somewhere now that it’s getting too hot to run with Scooby anyway.

  4. Our church is not open yet either so we do the Online thing!
I am not in need of running shoes but I did check out all the new Mizuno’s the other day. I do pick shoes by color but if I find a pair in the model that I wear and they are cheap enough, I’ll buy them! -M

Running is totally the most efficient workout for me too. I know if I only have 30 minutes, thats the best thing for me to do, but if I have a little longer (like an hour), I love taking a bootcamp class.

LOL I had the same thought about the All For One schedule. I’m scheduled for an 8am OTF class that morning, but I should still be able to do the run and strength classes live – I’ll probably do the yoga later on that evening.

  6. I definitely pay attention to my running shoe color 🙂 no surprise I will see you at the all for one classes!

  7. Kim at Running on the Fly says:

Yes, the color of the shoes aids in their functionality 😉 That said, I have been known to swap out the laces to brighten up the color scheme on occasion. I’m usually in Adrenalines, but have a pair of Ravennas (from a few years ago) that I still wear for short runs. I’ve thought of getting another pair (as if I really need more shoes).

  8. Marcia says:

I runfess I’d have done the same thing for a shoe color I preferred. My local New Balance store is doing such an amazing job with the emails from the store manager I’m kind of sorry I don’t need any shoes right now. Haha!

    • Coco says:

Hah! I think the brand-based stores are in Georgetown — near my office but not near my house. I’ve never shopped there because I usually want to try on a variety!

  9. Catrina says:

I runfess that I don’t care about the colour if that means they’re cheaper 😄
How great that you can do the All For One class on Friday! So happy for you!
I didn’t know that the 3 July was a holiday in the US.

  10. runswithpugs says:

Oh, I do care. I mean, it won’t prevent me from buying a pair of shoes if I need them, and I often will just take what my local running store has to support the business but this time? This time I bought straight from Brooks so I could have green and orange Adrenalines. Yup. I did that.

  11. I definitely like cute colors and prints, but the main thing is the right shoes for me. Or right price . . .

Hmm, I’ll have to look at the all for one thing. My guess is that that’s more time than I really want to spend on an app — but since I rarely look a the home page, thanks for the heads up!

I have kept to my neighborhood & the roads around it. Which is not exactly exciting. So far up here the numbers are still very low, but just looking at what’s going on in the south . . .

    • Coco says:

I haven’t had much luck finding shoes on sale — except the Black Friday sale that let me get the Ascend for a not-shocking price!

I don’t think of the Peloton programs as time spent on an app, but it is a long time to spend in my basement. I think they are repeating everything Saturday if I can’t stick it out.

      • Oddly they seemed to have changed up the front/home page — before I was seeing more things like the Artists series. I don’t think I’m seeing what you mentioned. Weird.

  12. I missed the All for One class schedule but will definitely check that out!

I definitely pay attention to the color of my shoes – for the money we pay for running shoes, might as well enjoy looking at them, right?

    • Coco says:

I agree with you! I got an email about the All for One day. I never explore the schedule on the app, but you can find the classe there.

  13. Chaitali says:

Ooh, I hadn’t heard of the peloton all for one series. I’ll have to look into that, it sounds fun!
