Well, here we are celebrating the unofficial last day of summer! It’s been a strange one for me in many ways–no kids at home, weather bouncing from cool to stifling, and way more hours on my bike than in my running shoes. Luckily I was able to end my summer in the best way possible–with a few days at the beach!
I’m not gonna lie, it was a struggle
getting out of bed in time to catch the sunrise!
It’s definitely been the summer of cycling around here, and my Garmin data has the numbers to prove it.
Summer 2017 Workouts
Running Miles | Cycling Miles
June Running: 8 runs (with the LHH 10K) + 4 OTF* classes = 56 miles
June Cycling: 5 rides (+ 2 indoor cycling classes*) = 173 miles
July Running: 8 runs (two in Germany!) + 2 OTF classes = 40 miles
July Cycling: 6 rides (+ 4 indoor cycling classes) = 201 miles
August Running: 8 runs + 4 OTF classes = 42 miles
August Cycling: 8 rides (+ 5 indoor cycling classes) = 278 miles
*I average about 2 miles per OTF class;
I don’t count any miles for indoor cycling.
It’s interesting to see I did 8 runs each month–at least I was consistent!
I still need to focus on cycling to get ready for our October 1 century ride, but I’m getting burned out on our usual routes. I’m also working more fall races into my calendar, so I do need to log more miles in my running shoes!

Weekly Wrap
Now for my report on last week for for the Weekly Wrap link up hosted by Holly and Tricia and this week’s guest host Montana from Pretty Lil Mudder.
Monday: I felt pretty good the day after the Reston Metric Century (make sure you check out my recap if you haven’t already!) but decided to take it easy with a strength routine from Quick Strength For Runners instead of OTF.

Tuesday: Indoor Cycling
I knew I would be cycling at the beach, but when I woke up to pouring rain I decided to use my last ride at Revolve.
Wednesday: 19 mile bike ride
We got to the beach mid-morning, but it was still cloudy and cool, so we decided to start our mini-vacation with a bike ride. We explored a new trail that I’ll share more about on Wednesday for Deb’s Wednesday Word link up, since it was a big improvement over last time.
Don’t worry, I wore my helmet too!
Thursday: 43 mile bike ride from Rehoboth to Ocean City and back.
I’ll share more on this ride on Wednesday also, since I noticed big improvements in my pace.
I don’t like the cap-under-helmet look,
but I dislike bee stings more!
Friday: 4 mile run
The wind was crazy Friday morning, so I opted for a short run instead of a ride. The last 1/4 mile back to my hotel was brutal!
Saturday: 9 cold, wet miles.
Our Saturday ride was rained out, but the Weather Channel App lured me out for a run with the promise of a few rain-free hours. While it was relatively dry for the first half of my run, the skies opened about mid-way through (of course!) with a heavy downpour!
By the end of my run I didn’t even bother dodging the puddles–
my shoes couldn’t hold any more water anyway.
Sunday: Quick Strength for Runners + 42 mile bike ride
The day started overcast and chilly, but it was really nice by the time we finished our ride.
I finally remembered to pull over and check out the sign explaining the art installation at the water treatment plant. It’s called Ripple, and is by two Danish artists (Remy and Reemhuizen). It stretches along 800 feet of fencing, with various “widgets” providing the artists’ interpretations of the tools and equipment used at the plant.
Did you end summer on a high note?
What are you looking forward to this fall?
Whew! What a week for you. Awesome job with the bike rides. Going to Rehoboth is on my to do list. There is a half marathon in December that I’ve thought about doing. I’m really looking forward to the fall weather! PR time is just around the corner!
People in my MRTT group love the Rehoboth Half and Full marathons – you should do it!
You were definitely consistent and had a great summer of fitness! I love that you focused more on biking this summer vs. running.
I’m really looking forward to the Fall because it’s the season for my goal race, the Chicago Marathon!
Chicago is going to be awesome! If I were going to do a marathon, that would be the one.
My summer “ended” on a high note of my impending return to running (and racing) in the fall 😉 You did some serious cycling!
Yay! I know you are chomping at the bit to lace those running shoes up. 😉
I do love how you’ve embraced cycling! I think if I had someone to ride with, I’d do more. I’m still nervous about riding on the road, tho!
Oh, I would not enjoy cycling so much on my own. I need a companion for sure!
I also did less running and more cycling this summer and loved it too. I am looking forward to fall running and can already feel the difference in my attitude and pace
I am ready for more running too – at least until the weather heats up again. 😉
We have similar stats for the summer with way more cycling miles vs running miles. You’ve had a great summer both cycling and running though! Way to go!
I don’t know if I could get a cap under my helmet with all of the hair that I have! But I know several cyclists that wear them. Great week Coco!
After the bee got in my helmet last weekend, I am trying it out. The grey cap I wore today worked better ….
Beautiful photos at the beach! It sounds like a great vacation in spite of the rain Saturday.
It’s amazing how great even a few days at the beach can be!
What a fantastic summer you have had! My husband has also put in a lot more cycling miles than running miles in the last few months. I am still very nervous about cycling so I will stick to running for now! We are now heading into Summer. I am very pleased with how winter has gone, but looking forward to warmer days and fewer runny noses from my kids! Great weekly wrap as usual!
Hah! It’s so funny to think of your “opposite” change of seasons. I’m still not super confident on my bike – especially in traffic.
Sounds like a great vacation! Although don’t even get me started on the forecasters and getting rained on when it’s supposed to be clear. 🙁
We’re off for a hike this morning, wish us luck to actually find the parking area!
I really shouldn’t trust them. I did wait until it stopped raining before heading out – it just didn’t stop for very long!
Wow you’ve cycled so much this summer!! I get tired of my running routes as well. A change is good. Also, love your biker chick jersey. Adorbs!
This was the summer of cycling for sure! Now it’s time to get my running on again!
You sure are racking up the mileage this summer, wow! I’m hoping to do a little more cycling this fall and winter now that I have a indoor trainer!
I haven’t used a trainer much. I’m too worried about hurting my bike somehow, although I know that not really an issue.
I love Fall, and I’m looking forward to lower temps for training, Fall decorations, Halloween… I’m gearing up!
Oh, gosh, I’m ready for cool weather, but not for Halloween!
I’m very happy with my summer. Most of it was anticipating and then celebrating my 40th birthday. It’s been a little hectic since then, though, with carpet installation, a cracked windshield, and a dead phone. Ugh! Wish it was ending on a better note. 🙁 I am looking forward to fall! It’s still getting into the triple digits here, and I’m ready for that to be done. 😉
Those types of things seem to happen all at once – I hope everything goes smoothly for a while!
You definitely did a lot of cycling this month! I was doing ok with mine, but I kind of lost my motivation. I had a goal cycling event in mind, but unfortunately, we won’t be able to go, so I’m on my own again. Plus, I will be ramping up my miles for some big races I have on my list. We will see how it goes.
Great job!
I am getting tired of our usual cycling routes — I guess it’s time to bring the balance back to more running. 😉
You did such a great job with your cycling this summer! Glad you made it to the beach – took me all summer but I finally got some beach time too!
It was worth the wait — and the last minute planning!
What a great week and what a fun summer! So awesome you could enjoy so many miles on the bike. I am hoping to increase my miles over the fall.
Your cycling mileage has been amazing! Great job – I really do wish I hopped on a bike at least once this summer, I never made it happen…oh well!
We did get rain on Saturday and I was so lucky that I made it through my 10 miler without a drop! But I was paid back with rain on Sunday morning!
Oh my gosh. I don’t think I’ve every run in such a downpour. It was ridiculous!
Oh I am so jealous that you were able to finish your summer at the beach. We usually go to Virginia Beach over Labor Day weekend, but opted to not go this year because of all of the other traveling that we’ve done this summer. We just wanted to have a relaxing weekend at home instead. But it wound up being perfect beach weather, so I wish that I could have still put my toes in the sand and breathed in the salty ocean air. Hopefully next year!
Looks like a super fit summer! You are rocking your bike rides! Summer treated me well, but I am def
Ready for some cooler running weather.
