Ah, the end of July. We still have a month of summer ahead of us, but I’m already noticing that it’s darker when I take my dog out for her early morning walk. The weather in Washington, D.C. is notoriously miserable in August–it’s the heat and the humidity–and we had a taste of that this week. Before I start whining about August, I’d better finish wrapping up July!

Weekly Wrap
Here’s my recap for the Weekly Wrap Link Up hosted by Holly and Tricia, including a look at my new hotel restaurant favorites:
Monday: 45 minute strength workout at home
My legs were tired after last weekend’s long run and bike ride, and I was just plain tired, so I switched my 5 am OTF class for an afternoon class on Friday.
Tuesday: Rodney Yee AM Yoga For Your Week
(Amazon Affiliate Link)
My body still felt like it needed a break, so I opted for my favorite yoga DVD before heading to the airport. It’s been so long since I’ve used it I forgot which program I liked! I ended up doing most of the “Standing Poses” program (up to the “relaxation” poses) and the “Twists” program which always fees so good.
I didn’t check into my hotel until 8:30 pm, but the restaurant was still serving dinner and this watermelon and feta salad hit the spot.
Wednesday: 45 minute treadmill workout at the hotel gym
As much as I’m on the fence about continuing with OTF, I can really tell the difference it’s making in my running. I decided to do an incline-based workout and it didn’t feel hard until level 3, and I was able to maintain my pace even at level 5.
After my late dinner, I wasn’t too hungry for breakfast, but I didn’t want to miss out on these scrumptious strawberries!
Thursday: 45 minute strength workout in the hotel gym.
I had the gym to myself on Wednesday, but on Thursday there were three of us trying to use the tiny weights area! Luckily we were using different weights and were able to take turns using the bench.
I couldn’t talk about favorite hotel menu items without mentioning bacon and eggs with toast and strawberries–a perfect balance of everything. 🙂
Friday: 4:30 pm Orange Theory Fitness class.
I got home mid-morning, worked at home for a few hours and then headed to OTF.
It was much easier to push myself to get my heart rate up than it is at 5:00 am, but an afternoon class just won’t fit in my normal schedule.
Saturday: 8 mile long run
I met my friend at 5:45 to try to beat the heat. It was humid for sure, but we chose a shady route along the C&O canal towpath and were grateful for the clouds. We both drained our water bottles and were dripping by the time we finished.
Sunday: 32 mile bike ride
Last ride and gear check before the Farm To Fork Fondo next weekend!
Next weekend my husband will be doing the 68 mile ride of the Lancaster, Pennsylvania Farm to Fork Fondo and I am so excited about it. I worked out a sponsorship with the organizer so my husband and I will be enjoying the “First Class Experience” which includes lodging at the Manor View Inn and other perks that I can’t wait to enjoy and tell you about. It will be my first group ride and my first ride on open roads, so I hope I don’t embarrass myself to death or get hit by a car. 😉
Come back Saturday for the
Ultimate Coffee Date Link Up!
What’s your favorite hotel or restaurant breakfast?
I need something to kick my running back into gear! Idk if OTF is the answer, tho. Your bike ride sounds fun!
I think a motivated running partner would be a better solution!
I’m noticing the difference in daylight as well! Summer just comes and goes in the blink of an eye!
It’s really cool to see you and the mister getting out on the bikes!
It’s amazing how much this runner loves cycling. 🙂
You are going to enjoy that ride so much! My first experience riding with a lot of other people was a blast, but I admit to fretting over it way too much. Obviously, unnecessarily. As long as we know the location of the Starbucks, everything else just falls into place. 😉 Thanks for linking, Coco.
Hah! I’m actually not worried about the riding, just about getting hit by a car. And, I don’t even think I’ll be having Starbucks at the inn. 🙂
I am so excited for your bike event next weekend wish I could join you. Maybe next year!
Yes, if it’s as fun as I hope we should do it next year!
What a busy week. You make me tired reading about it.
I can’t seem to get motivated to go to a yoga class. I should try to do it at home.
GL on your bike race. That’s great that you will be doing it with your hubby.
Yep, he’s my cycling sherpa and bike mechanic, so he’s good to have along on a ride. 😉
I wasn’t going to say anything about the darker mornings, but yeah. 🙁
That hotel breakfast looks pretty perfect to me too!
OK I need to look and see if I still have those Rodney DVDs. I had the a.m. and the p.m. and I think I’ve figured out a way to play a DVD in the house. No DVD player no drive in my computer Mama needs yoga. I’m off this morning to look for a yoga retreat in San Diego… Join me? 🙂
You’ll be in my hometown next week! I’m from Lancaster. Be sure to check out downtown (there’s a real city there with lots of galleries, shops, and delicious food). Hit me up if you need specific recommendations. And good luck on your ride!
I always get so jealous when I see people posting about OTF. There are two in Charleston, but none close enough to me. I keep hearing rumors that one is coming to a shopping center right near me, but that has yet to happen.
Oh, I’m so excited! We’ll probably go up Friday afternoon and check out the town.
Have fun at the group bike ride this weekend. That sounds great! And the watermelon salad really does look delicious.
It really hit the spot!
Watermelon and feta has been my salad of choice lately!
Your ride sounds like it will be so much fun! Can’t wait to hear about it!
Looks like you got an awesome week of workouts in! I’m with you on sometimes not feeling too hungry but always having room for delicious fruits. 😛
Super excited to hear about your group ride! :] Hope you have a ton of fun!
You had a fantastic week while traveling. Kudos to you for getting it done and eating well 🙂 Boom!
The bike ride sounds awesome! I would be super excited. I am sure you will be fine 🙂 Enjoy!
If you are worried about the temps in August I am terrified! LOL! I am not a big fancy breakfast eater but I sure don’t mind saving up some calories and splurging for the breakfast buffet! Nice week: )
I’m noticing the change in daylight too… it is getting darker earlier, but staying hotter later – boo!
Your biking event next weekend sounds like a lot of fun… looking forward to reading about it.
Sounds like you are enjoying your work in Miami! Knowing where the Starbucks is really makes a difference I would imagine.
Will you have to go back there for work often?
I’ve noticed the time change in the afternoons as well here. It is slowly getting darker earlier. I’m not ready for it either.
