Before we got Tiger Lilly, my husband and I agreed to share dog walking duty. He usually leaves for work by 6:00 am, while I don’t need to leave until about 7:30, but I didn’t want to be responsible for waking a dog every morning.
When we first got Tiger Lilly a year and a half ago, we took turns walking her in the mornings. Gradually, though, I became the morning dog walker, and now I like it that way. It’s a nice way to start my day, and a decent warm up before my workout. I look forward to our o’dark-thirty walks–and the rest of our morning routine together.
As soon as my alarm goes off, I hear Tiger Lilly’s tail thumping–she knows that in a few minutes we will be going for a walk.
She tries to help me get ready by bringing me shoes.
This is what our walk looks like on my Garmin.
I’m not sure how my hill is steeper on the way home than it is on the way out,
but it does feel that way!
When we get back, I give Tiger Lilly her breakfast and head to the basement for my workout. She likes to judge me keep me company.
This is what she thought of my “breakdancer” move from Best Body Bootcamp!
I usually have to fight her for a spot on my yoga mat.
When I fix my breakfast, she waits patiently for my extra egg yolk.
It’s the only “people” food we give her–it must taste really good!
Do you exercise in the morning?
If you have a dog, does it keep you company?
If you have a cat, does it care? 😉
my dog zoey definitely keeps me company! and i love taking her on walks in the morning when everything is so quiet and peaceful!
My dogs keep me company, too. And they totally steal the mat if they aren't already in a cozy position somewhere else. Morning workouts, they'll usually not reposition, too much work I think.
It kills me that she comes downstairs to keep me company, but sometimes she will get bored and go back upstairs — especially if my husband is still in bed.
My dog definitely keeps me company…and I to him too 🙂
I love exercising in the morning but only do so about twice a week!
I've always exercising in the morning makes me tired for the rest of the day, so I prefer to workout in the evenings. Lately, my schedule has been hectic and I'm usually such a zombie comes 7pm that running or going to the gym is the last thing on my mind. So I'm going to try to switch to the morning again. My husband works out almost every morning and he says my body just needs to get used to it. Hopefully my new schedule will keep me motivated and on track! I also really want to get a dog but it's not the right time…yet. Did you always have a dog in your family?
Morning exercise time works much better for me, although I've been doing an afternoon spin class once a week lately. We waited until my son was about 4 before we got a dog, then we waited about a year and a half "in between dogs." They are a big time commitment, so if it's not the right time, it's not the right time!
