The First Ultimate Coffee Date Of 2018

Welcome to the first Ultimate Coffee Date of 2018! Is it too late to wish you a Happy New Year? Is it too soon to ask if you’ve given up on any resolutions? 😉 Share your “coffee date” post in the link up below, and make sure you visit my co-host Deborah at Confessions Of A Mother Runner and comment on other blogs to spread some New Year’s goodwill.

If we were having coffee …

If we were having coffee, I would ask about your holiday. Did you travel? Did you get a chance to relax? Did you drink too much eggnog? I only took a few days off from work–and didn’t have any eggnog!–but it was nice to have some down time without a big to-do list keeping me running around.

If we were having coffee, I would ask if you made any New Year’s resolutions or have any big goals for 2018. I didn’t and I don’t, but I am participating in Laura’s Fit And Fueled program and looking forward to implementing her tips and strategies for improving my nutrition and performance.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I am still drawing inspiration from this Picasso quote that Ann shared during a yoga class.

Then and now I draw on it mostly for cycling. I did that challenging Conte’s Hill ride until I could do it, but now that it’s been a few months I may be starting from “can not do” again. I need this reminder that it’s worth facing down my fear of failing–and falling–to learn how to do it again.

That brings me to the words I’ve chosen for 2018:

Namaste served me well in 2017, and with compassion I will continue my efforts to see the best in others. But I also need courage to do the hard things God may be calling me to do to make His world a better place. Instead of choosing, I decided to have two words for 2018.

Did you choose a word (or two!) for 2018?

  1. I didn’t make any New Year’s resolutions, but I do have two bucket list items I’d like to check off: doing a century ride and running the Grand Tetons Half.

    Thanks for the linkup!

  2. Wendy says:

No resolutions, no intentions, no goals, and no words. I’m just going to keep on keeping on. I guess that’s an intention, right?

Looking forward to hearing about the nutrition class!

  3. Those are both great words. Hopefully I’ll be able to remember mine this year (haven’t forgotten it yet, LOL!).

  4. Great words you’ve chosen. I hope they serve you well this year.

You know I’m a big goal setter and I’ve got some big ones this year – which is why Brave felt like the right word for me.

Here’s to a great 2018! Thanks for hosting coffee!

  5. HoHo Runs says:

You may two very good word choices for the year. I don’t make goals or resolutions and when I try to think of a word…I keep coming back to “unbroken”. I’d like that to be both in the physical and mental sense. PS…I had copious amounts of eggnog. 😉 Thanks for coffee!

  6. I really like that quote too! It’s funny how we convince ourselves we cannot do something. Even after I did the Contes ride a few times successfully, I was still afraid that I would not be able to do it again.I hope we are both back at it soon! Have a great time skiing 🙂

  7. We had a very busy holiday week (s) so I am not sad about hibernating here in the house this weekend! No egg nog for me!

  8. vicki says:

I took some time off between the holidays, and I’m not ashamed to say I did absolutely nothing for a few of them. Those are great words… I’ve decided to go with a word this year (thrive) instead of setting a bunch of goals.

  9. Farrah says:

I hope your holiday went well! I like the two words you’ve chosen for 2018! :]! I haven’t chosen one yet, but I’m thinking of one right now!

  10. I’ve been in Florida for the holidays and return Monday. Not so thrilled! I love your choice of words!

  11. I did set some goals. Perhaps they are more like intentions? One key one is to be grateful for what I can do and not lament what I used to do. So my word is “grateful” if I have to have one. Thanks for sharing that quote. It’s a good one. I look forward to hearing any good nutrition tips you find with Laura.

Happy New Year! Thanks for the link up!

  12. Teresa says:

Courage and Compassion …two great words for the year! I also love what you said about having compassion to see the best in others …if we would all strive to do that, what a better world this would be! Happy New Year Coco and thanks for hosting!

  13. Kim W says:

Great words for 2018! I’m still searching for my word. It hasn’t found me yet. (Any suggestions?!)

  14. Clarinda says:

Happy new year, Coco! I’m just getting organized for my 2018 goals, so I haven’t given up on them just yet. They will be a work in progress throughout the year. I like the words you’ve chosen for the year. I wish you the very best. 🙂

  15. I just joined Laura’ course too to learn quite a bit on nutrition. My 2018 goals involve going after it, throwing fears out and making it a year of real change.
