Oops! I Did Orange Theory Fitness Hell Week Again

I didn’t plan to participate in Hell Week at Orange Theory Fitness again this year, but then an unexpected trip to Boulder where it is too dark–and some days too cold–to run before work led me to the gates of hell week.

Orange Theory Fitness Hell Week
I’m actually only part of the way through hell week, since it runs through Halloween, but with 4 workouts done, I am determined to go at least once more to earn a “free” t-shirt.

Orange Theory Fitness Hell Week

Since I was travelling on Tuesday, the first Hell Week workout I did was the second one–Don’t Breathe.  I don’t see scary movies anymore, but the OTF interpretation involved a lot of “all out” intervals on the treadmill–and lots of reminders from the coach to breathe. 😉

Not really sorry I missed burpee day

The next day I returned for Drag Me Up The Hill, which wasn’t quite as bad as its cinematic namesake. The theme workout was a team treadmill workout, with each person increasing the incline each time.

Friday’s workout was 28 Reps Later. I don’t think I’ve seen the movie it was based on, but the story line sounds familiar (don’t they all?). The theme workout was a series of six strength moves. We were supposed to do seven rounds, adding one rep each time (1+2+3+4+5+6+7 = 28) but I didn’t get to the end.

With a solid treadmill block, I earned more splat points

Saturday’s workout was Thighday the 13th (shouldn’t it have been on Friday?). For the treadmill/rowing blocks we did cycles of:

0.13 mi treadmill // 13 goblet squats  // 130 m row
0.13 mi treadmill // 13 goblet squats  + 13 jump squats // 260 m row

For the floor blocks we did four sets of paired moves (a squat variation and an arm exercise) in an upside down pyramid (13 reps/10 reps/7 reps/4 reps), with one minute of either bench hop-overs or declined mountain climbers in between each group.  So.Many.Squats.

Since I did the treadmill intervals at an all out pace (7:30 mm!),
I spent lots of time in the orange zone.

I skipped today, but plan to go back for The Inclines  of Death on Monday and Trick-Or-Treat on Tuesday.

In addition to being warm and bright at dark 0’clock, the Orange Theory Fitness in Boulder is conveniently located near a Starbucks–just in case I needed more motivation to avoid the dreary hotel gym.

I love how they decorated the cups!

  1. These sound like some serious workouts! I so wish an OTF was closer – I think the mix of workouts would keep me from getting bored. I thought the shirt you got last year was great – can’t wait to see what you get this time!

    • Coco says:

I heard mixed reviews about this year’s shirt — probably because last year’s was so awesome. OTF is never boring — maybe there will be one near you soon.

  2. Yikes! Sounds scary! The names of the workouts alone make me want to brave the cold and run outside!

  3. All that for a free T shirt!? Ha I don’t know…

  4. Marcia says:

Those workouts are killer and I love the themes. How have I not gotten a fun Halloween Starbucks cup? Just boring white here. Wth?

  5. I like scary movies that are intelligent. Not just ripper movies, though.

They’re very clever with their names! And since I workout at home, no Halloween themed workouts. If I’d done the trail race yesterday, that was Halloween themed and lots of costumes.

  6. What a fun and challenging workout with Orange Theory. I want to go to Starbucks and try the zombie frappe they have for Halloween.

  7. Lesley says:

I love fun Halloween movies, but I don’t watch scary/horror ones. I wouldn’t be able to sleep after those.

  8. Chaitali says:

Ha, I love the names of the workouts! I love it when studios have fun with things like that.

  9. Sounds like they are having lots of fun with their workouts!

  10. These workouts all sound tough. I remember reading about them last year. And scary movies? No, thank you. I get spooked super easy and have a hard time falling asleep after experiencing all that trauma LOL I’ve been to one haunted house (as an adult, none the less), and yikes…totally not my gig.

  11. HoHo Runs says:

The things we do for a free T-shirt! I do like a good suspenseful and spooky movie, but not the slasher kind. I would absolutely use one of those classes as my justification for going to Starbucks! As if I really need one… Thanks for linking.

  12. Wow, those are some challenging workouts. I love that your Garmin does the color code like that for heart rates. I’ve only done OT once, I loved it but was too hesitant to make the financial commitment!

  13. Jessica says:

Orange Theory sounds like so much fun! I would love to try it sometime!

  14. Rachel says:

Haha, you crack me up. Sounds like a great week of workouts!! Tough ones at that. Nice job!!

  15. Teresa says:

Oh the things we will do for a cool tshirt!!! Lol

  16. Well that does sound like hell! But kudos to you for getting it done! Fun Starbucks cup!

  17. The things that will entice people to do something, in this case for a free t-shirt. Hmmmmmm.

I’m glad that you had a great workout option available to you while you were traveling. Its always difficult to keep up with a regular workout routine when away from your normal environment and routine.

  18. Mary says:

Kudos to you for not only finding a way to work out on your trip, but working out hard. The themed workouts sound like a cool way to inspire you to do them!

  19. Angela @marathonsandmotivation.com says:

Wow! That sounds like a tough week of workouts!!

  20. I love love scary movies! I like them to look as real as they can be!
I haven’t thought about doing a Halloween themed workout. Maybe next year I’ll think on this!
