Sayonara Summer Ultimate Coffee Date Link Up

Around here, this is the weekend when we say sayonara to summer. Pools will close for the season on Monday, the few schools that haven’t started yet will begin on Tuesday, and I’ll wonder if I can wear my white pants to work one more time. I’m glad you’ve taken time out of your busy weekend to join the Ultimate Coffee Date Link Up. Don’t forget to visit my co-host Deborah at Confessions Of A Mother Runner and comment on other blogs in the link up. The Ultimate Coffee Date

If we were having coffee, I would tell you about my new morning coffee routine. The Starbucks at my office has started enforcing the “free refill” policy that requires you stay on site to get your refill. Since I can’t get through the day on just one cup, I’ve started  spending 20-30 minutes there before heading up to my office with my refill.

It’s not a bad way to ease into my work day–especially when it’s nice enough to sit outside–but once Rosie starts patrolling, I know it’s time to head inside.

Rosie Robot Washington Harbor

If we were having coffee, I’d ask if you’d heard about Rosie’s ill-fated predecessor Steve?

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that  I finally got to put my feet in the sand last week, when my husband and I spent a few days at Rehoboth Beach. I’ve forgotten how hard it is to find a good cup of coffee early in the morning at the beach–most places don’t open until 7:30 or 8:00! Our quest took us to the edge of town where Egg opened at 7:00, and had really good coffee along with great food that fueled our pre-beach ride.

waiting for the caffeine to kick in

If we were having coffee, I’d ask if your September calendar is as busy as mine. We’re still debating the Shenandoah 50 mile ride next weekend, but if we don’t do that I may do the George Washington Patriot Run 10K. It’s the first time I don’t have a business trip that conflicts with that race, which includes admission to Mount Vernon after the race.  The next weekend I have that business trip, and then I have Reston 10 Miler the weekend after that. I have a feeling I will be missing the slower pace of summer!

  1. I haven’t heard of Steve OR Rosie but that looks kind of cool! And how great to spend time at the beach. Envious! We might go hiking Monday, but I was suddenly feeling meh yesterday afternoon so we’ll see how it goes.

I don’t wear a lot of white because it always gets dirty, but you can wear it year round. Just pair it with more fall like colors (browns, navy, burgundy, deep greens).

  2. Marcia says:

Wow are those robocops? Wild! I already changed out of my white summer purse. Sigh.

  3. OMG, that robot! We could use one of them at Lake Arlington–I bet they would have found that woman under the pier…

  4. My fall is super busy too already! You guys get up super early even while on vacation huh? We need a real coffee date again soon

  5. HoHo Runs says:

Wasn’t Rosie the name of the Jetson’s robot/maid? That’s such a great pic of you waiting for the caffeine jolt. You do have a busy September. I may run a 5k and there is a century ride at the end of the month (although we were originally targeting one in October) I will definitely still wear white (and sandals!) for another couple of months.

  6. I didn’t realize DC was using security robots!? You do have a busy month ahead! My calendar’s been filling up too and I’m trying to see where I might squeeze in a 10K if possible.

    Enjoy the long weekend!

    • Coco says:

They are just beta testing the robots at our workplace. I think they would do better at office parks than the city — too many hazards!

  7. Teresa says:

With all of the cycling you’ve been doing lately, I say go for the George Washington 10k run ….it sounds really cool to me!

Glad to hear the Steve will make a full recovery ….people around here wouldn’t know what to think about a Rosie or Steve. That’s pretty cool!

Will I wear white after Labor Day? Aboslutely! It stays so warm down here for so long that I gave up on that little cardinal rule of fashion decades ago. Here in the south, when we do wear white after Labor Day, we call it ‘winter white’! 🙂

    Thanks for hosting Coco!

    • Coco says:

Isn’t “winter white” a different color? Maybe I’m just thinking of all the “white” colors at the paint store!

      • Teresa says:

Yes, it really is a different color …a little more creamy white. But it’s how we southerners justify wearing any white long after Labor Day. Lol!

  8. Clarinda says:

I’m taking the weekend off! 🙂 I feel so far behind on blogging and life that I plan on taking the long weekend to catch up and prepare for Sept. Right now, Sept doesn’t look too crazy – unless we end up going on a road trip to the PNW.

    Aww, poor Steve. 🙁

    Enjoy your weekend, Coco!

  9. By all means, DO wear your white pants year-round (just opt for colorful shoes). White is a color, after all, it deserves some respect 😉 Our big plans are going to the Iowa State vs. UNI football game tonight. Our oldest daughter went to ISU (so we feel entitled to go to some of their games, even if we’re both U of Iowa Hawkeyes). And, the UNI (Univ. of Northern Iowa) team has one of our hometown guys as their starting quarterback this year!

  10. Farrah says:

Aww, sad times on that “free refill” policy! :[

I hadn’t heard about Steve or Rosie, but poor Steve! :[ How sad!

I can’t wait to be done with my exam so I can go out and explore the world again (in short weekend/day trip bursts, haha)!

  11. Karen @ Fit in France says:

It is not a long weekend here, but still fun plans because our weather is nice. Running, golf & heading to the Normandy coast for the day Sunday. And I wear white through September here, easily.

  12. Rosie looks amazing! I think she’d make me smile every day.

I agree about the beach town/coffee conundrum. We were jonesing in Tiburon, CA recently. The coffee shop opened at 8. What!?

My September from the 8th on is nuts. This weekend we’re just chilling.

  13. LOL I haven’t heard of Rosie or Steve! These robots are starting to creep me out, lol. I think September feels like it’s going to fly by too. I’m so looking forward to Montreal but work is going to keep me on my toes until I finally make it to vacay!

  14. I really want to see one of these robot cops when I am in DC for work!!! Several of my coworks have mentioned them.

I am looking forward to a laid back September! October on the other hand is already giving me anxiety! I don’t have a few weekend!

  15. im looking forward to the Fall…and kinda glad that Summer is over 🙂
