August Hot Or Iced Ultimate Coffee Date Link Up

Welcome to the Ultimate Coffee Date Link Up, where we imagine that we are getting together for coffee (hot or iced) or tea (hot or iced), or your favorite relaxing beverage (whatever temperature), and share what’s going on in our lives. It’s a chance to get to know each other better and support each other in all our endeavors. Since it’s no fun to have coffee alone, make sure you leave comments on other blogs in the link up, and visit my co-host Deborah at Confessions Of A Mother Runner.

Have you seen these tips for making the most of link ups?

Coffee In Brussels

When we last met for coffee I was on vacation, where we started the weekend in Brussels. Although the Grand Place Starbucks is the fanciest I’ve ever seen, my favorite coffee was at a little corner restaurant–and not just because they served it with yummy speculoos cookies.

Coffee In Bremen

After our weekend in Brussels, we headed to Bremen, where my son is studying this summer. There’s one Starbucks in Bremen, and of course I spotted it right away. As I shared before, there was a lot more to see and do Bremen than I expected, and I was even more surprised to see that it has its own Starbucks mug.

Coffee Back Home

As much as we enjoyed our vacation, I was happy to be back home where I could enjoy a pot of coffee with half-and-half–something I never found in Europe, although I learned to make do with whole milk.

Getting speculoos cookies in my June Must Have Box eased the transition!

The ride home from Dulles Airport always brings back memories, because I’ve lived in the same city all my life. I love my home city, and was thrilled when Jennifer from Modern Map Art offered to send me a poster based on her hand-drawn map.

Modern Map Art

I love picking out where I’ve lived, where my friends live, where I like to run, etc.

Modern Map Art has black and white maps of many different cities, colorful “skyline” prints for major cities (including Washington, D.C.) and a special category of ski resort maps. The city and skyline prints are only $29.99 with free shipping!

If we were having coffee, I’d ask if you’ve heard of SnackNation? I try to resist subscription snack boxes because I don’t really need more snacking temptation, but when they offered to send me a sample box, I couldn’t say no. The box they sent was so amazing I convinced my office manager to look into their office snack delivery packages.

Wouldn’t it be awesome to have snacks like these in the break room?

August Vacation Envy

If we were having coffee, I’d ask if you have any vacation plans for August. I had a great time on our vacation in Europe, but I wish I could get away to the beach for a few days in August.

It’s been two years, since I’ve seen this view in person.

So, what would you tell me over coffee?

  1. You have certainly sampled coffee from all over the world haven’t you? I remember how good the coffee in Europe is. I don’t think I would go to starbucks over there. Those hand drawn maps are really cool and a great gift idea. Fun catching up over coffee w you!

  2. Oh man, I have major coffee and vacation envy right now! We’re at that stage of life where there’s no available time for vacation because of the kids sports schedules, but watching their success on and off the field makes it all worth it. I’m like you though, I look for a Starbucks wherever our sports takes us. My favourite is a skinny vanilla latte with a scoop of protein. My mom is from the Netherlands so we ALWAYS had speculoos (windmill) cookies in the house. YUM YUM!

I remember those sports weekends well – it’s a different type of fun. And, yes, Starbucks made those weekend sports events better!

  3. Isn’t it funny how coffee is different everywhere you go? and you are making the tasting rounds! I hope you get a little time on the beach!

  4. Marcia says:

I’m going with hot coffee today since we’ve got an unexpected cool spell here. I love seeing your pics of Brussels, sadly I was not a coffee drinker when we lived there. Pretty sure there were no Starbucks mugs then either. Summer is winding down too fast for my taste!

    • Coco says:

Yeah, I’ve enjoyed the quieter pace at work this summer, especially since last summer I had so many business trips. Soon we will be in the full swing of fall.

  5. I haven’t had a beach vacation in too long! But I’m happy to be home after all the travel.

I would’ve shot myself if I’d stayed living where I grew up, but then it’s not as nice as your hometown, for sure.

  6. Teresa says:

Love that map of Alexandria! I wouldn’t mind having one of Paris as a momento of where Major Hubs and I honeymooned!

The last time I traveled to Europe, I was not a coffee drinker so now I’m anxious to try out all the coffee on our next European vacation.

Speaking of vacations …..I’ll be getting both a vacation and some beach time in just a couple of weeks when we will be bound for Hawaii. I’m really just too excited for words!

    Thanks for hosting Coco!

  7. Barrie says:

What a fun recap~ and cool to see the differences in Starbucks mugs in each country! I love that map- it would be a great gift for my city-dwelling friends!

    • Coco says:

The Starbucks mug collections are really cool. I never started a collection and figure it’s too late to start now.

  8. If we were having coffee, I’d share with you how I wished I actually LIKED coffee LOL As much as I adore the fragrance of a hot pot brewing, I just cannot seem to acquire a taste for it. I’m glad there are numerous other options these days for hot beverages (I actually prefer a hot beverage after my early morning excursions, no matter the season). Those city maps look nice!

    • Coco says:

I love my morning coffee. The rest of the day I’m happy to smell it brewing but don’t usually have a taste for it — unless I need it to pair with a decadent chocolate dessert. 😉

  9. Clarinda says:

I’m so jealous of your European coffee experiences! No solid vacation plans yet in August, but I have family coming to visit next week for my birthday. It’s like a vacation because I took 4 days off work. 🙂 I hope you get to the beach this month!

  10. Farrah says:

I love speculoos cookies!! 😀 They’re so tasty! (Ah, Trader Joe’s cookie butter. *-*…)

I’ve never heard of SnackNation, but hooray for delicious snacks!

No vacation plans for me til November, but I’m looking forward to that break! 😛

  11. Tamieka says:

    Hi!!

I hope you had a wonderful vacation. That is some fancy Starbucks. …. I can understand just getting home and wanting your regular cup of Joe.

We are going on our 1st family vacation to Mrytle Beach at the end of August.

Oooh..those snacks look tasty. I am trying to snack less so that box would be to tempting but I can see how it would be a good choice for the office !!

Thanks for having coffee…I have missed it!

    • Coco says:

I’m so glad you were able to join us! Yes, I try to keep fewer snacks in the house, but I like to have a stash at work to keep me going on long days.

  12. I don’t have any August vacations planned but have spent the few days lounging at my brother’s farm which is super relaxing and lovely. I haven’t been to the beach this summer at all except in the rain in Rhode Island for a wedding! Weird!

I tried Snack Nation and my office is trying it too!!

    • Coco says:

Hah! I guess they found the right people to reach out to! I didn’t appreciate the quiet of a farm when I was younger, but now I think it would be a great place to spend a long weekend.

  13. I love those hand-drawn city maps! They would make great gifts.

I feel like it’s been forever since we’ve been to the beach – still hoping to squeeze some time in, but the summer’s going by way too fast!

  14. HoHo Runs says:

When I started collecting Starbucks mugs, they looked like the Bremen mug. I haven’t seen one like that in a long time — and I prefer that collection series over the newer one. I hope you can visit the beach for a few days. Thanks for the coffee date!

  15. I started buying the Starbucks mugs when my sister and I started our sister trips. Now I pick them up on my running trips too. My husband said I have to stop! LOL!

Interestingly, there is no mug for Charleston South Carolina. I find that so odd!

  16. Karen Bayne says:

They give you a free cookie at the Starbucks in Bremen?!
Am I strange? I can not tell a big difference between creamer and milk. I feel like my taste buds are faulty lol
