Running The Central Park Loop

Last week I had a business trip to New York City which I took advantage of to relive the best part of the NYC Half! I stayed at the same hotel, started my days running the Central Park loop, and refueled at the same Starbucks.

Even my legs got in the game with way faster than usual paces for an everyday run.

Central Park Loop #1

On my first morning, I ran the full Central Park loop, reliving the last time I was there for the NYC Half. I noticed where I lined up, where the starting line was, where I dropped my water bottle, and where we left and reentered the park for the Harlem loop.

The weather was gorgeous and–as usual–the park was busy with runners, cyclists, and dog walkers.

Central Park Loop #2

On my second morning, I ran a shorter loop, heading around the reservoir instead of the north end. As much as I wanted to face that big hill again, I didn’t want to overdo it with the Denver Urban 10 on Sunday.

My Garmin freaks out a bit around the tall buildings

It was another gorgeous day, although I could already feel it getting warmer.

New Bikes At Revolve

Another highlight of my workouts this week was trying out the new bikes at Revolve. I wasn’t planning on going to indoor cycling on Thursday. After going to OTF Monday, and running Tuesday and Wednesday, I was leaning towards doing an easier strength workout at home, but when I saw that the new bikes were in, I couldn’t resist!

While some needed fine-tuning, my bike rode really smoothly!

New Breakfast Favorites

My intense morning workouts demand serious refueling. I’ve been having eggs and toast for ages, but everyone once in a while try to mix it up. While I’m not a huge fan of cottage cheese, this new brand caught my eye with its 19 g protein and 120 cals per serving. It does have a lot of sodium (as most cottage cheeses do), but it also tastes better–maybe it’s creamier?–than other brands.

I like paring cottage cheese with fruit, and that’s been easy to do now with fresh berries in season. At one of my conferences they served berries with a bit of fresh mint, and it was so delicious! I’ve started adding mint to my own fruit salads–it adds an amazing depth of refreshing flavor.

Colfax Denver Urban 10

There’s one more “workout” I did last week–the Coflax Denver Urban 10! Since Frontier doesn’t offer in-flight wi-fi, my recap will have to wait, but I’ll tell you my Garmin time was 1:26:06.

I’m linking up with Holly and Tricia and guest host Wendy for the Weekly Wrap and joining Courtney‘s Training Recap link up.

Cottage cheese–love it or hate it?

Have you tried mint in your fruit salad?

  1. I wish I could get myself to like cottage cheese something about the texture just kind of bothers me. Fun to go back and run the race route again.

  2. Not a fan of cottage cheese! But love all the fresh berries now & congrats on your race in Denver!

  3. Kimberly G says:

So fun that you were able to run the Central Park loop. It’s an amazing place to run!

Those new bikes look amazing! Congrats on your race in Denver!

  4. Carla says:

LOVED all the pics on the book of the face this weekend too.
Spring has fallen away here for sure.
    IT’S HOT HOT HOT SUMMERTIME.
    (git me to colorado?)

  5. My big regret from my trip to NYC (10 years ago) was that I didn’t run in Central Park. My sisters get all weird about my running, and I was visiting one of them, so I didn’t go. Next time, I’m doing it!

  6. I’ve only been to NYC once ,and that was way before I ever owned running shoes. I’ve heard Central Park is a runner’s dream 😉 Cottage cheese? Meh….not a fan, but if I mix in some fruit, I can handle it.

  7. I love all of your pics of NYC! How awesome to run through Central Park! You have the best pictures on your travels! I am not a fan of cottage cheese lol. Hope you have a great week!

  8. Darlene says:

I do love cottage cheese but don’t eat it often.

I LOVE running in CP. Don’t get to do it enough. I am crossing my fingers that I get into the half next year.

I am going down for work twice in June but there’ll be no time for the park unless I go at night. I’ll end up along the East or Hudson River.

    • Coco says:

I’m not sure I’d feel as safe as night, but maybe it’s a popular time to run too. Sometimes I stay at a hotel ~ 1 mi away and only get to run partway through the park.

  9. New equipment at the gym can be hard to turn down! I’m not a cottage cheese fan, can’t handle the texture I guess.

  10. I really need to go for another run in Central Park – it’s so beautiful, but I do remember those hills! Great job and congrats on the 10 miler – I didn’t even realize you had a race coming up!

  11. Marcia says:

I adore CP but have only run there a handful of times. We’re getting new spin bikes as well. Feels like we just got the “old” ones. I’m kind of neutral on cottage cheese. Haven’t had it in a long time. Yes to mint and fruit. I considered growing some mint this year but it’s very invasive.

    • Coco says:

We have a plot of mint that took hold after my husband emptied out the dirt from a pot of mint without realizing what he was doing! It’s great in iced tea too, of course.

  12. Running or walking in Central Park is such a treat!!! I always try to do that when I’m there.

  13. Christine says:

Oh I’d love to run in Central Park! So pretty and such an iconic place. The next time I visit NYC, it’s on my list.

  14. Chaitali says:

Sounds like a fun week with a lot of travel! I love fruit salad with mint in it, it really adds a lot of flavor. I’ve never thought to do it for myself at home though. I’ll have to start adding that to my routine 🙂

    • Coco says:

Now that my husband showed me where out plot of mint is, I’m trying to remember to do it more often. 🙂

  15. Lesley says:

I’ve eaten cottage cheese in the past, but it’s not my favorite anymore. I had to put on some weight in college, for sports, and I used that as my protein boost. I was rather sick of it afterwards.

    • Coco says:

I definitely go through phases of eating it or not eating it, with the eating it phases not lasting very long!

  16. Janalyn says:

Oh wow! what great pacing! I one day strive to be able to do that

  17. That sounds like so much fun to relive your race! Ive never run in NYC and really want to some day!

  18. Jenn says:

Mint with fruit can be really yummy, especially with melon or berries.
I like cottage cheese but I have to be in the mood for it. I prefer it plain than with fruit, though.

Central Park is such an amazing run. There is so much to see and it never seems to get old. I wish I had taken more advantage of it while I was there, but we did so much walking and other activity that my legs were done!

    • Coco says:

I’ve really only gotten to run there on a few business trips over the past few years, but I try to get there when I can!

  19. I do like cottage cheese, but don’t eat a whole lot. I try to keep dairy to a minimum. It’s about time for some chia pudding to mix things up!

    Nice running in CP!

    • Coco says:

I never got into chia pudding. I’m not much of a pudding fan, even though I like yogurt which has a similar consistency.

  20. Nice running in Central Park! That is on my bucket list! I do love cottage cheese- I will look for that brand and try it! I also like to throw almonds in mine for a little crunch 🙂

  21. I’ve been able to embrace cottage cheese – I think it’s a texture thing!

I’m so jelly of your Central Park runs – such a great spot!

  22. So awesome – running Central Park is on my bucket list.

  23. Clarinda says:

I’m so jealous of your Central Park runs! I lived in Brooklyn back in ’05/’06, but wasn’t running at the time (terrible shin splints!) and kind of regret not going to Central Park more.

I haven’t had cottage cheese is such a long time, but I do love it!

  24. Kerri says:

I LOVE cottage cheese, but it never seems to agree with me! Also, I ran the central park loop so many times as a new runner, back when I lived in NYC. Glad I stumbled upon this post, as it brought me back:)

  25. Bethany says:

I like cottage cheese in the summer. Totally going to have to try the mint.

  26. Zenaida says:

Looks like fun! I’ve been to NY a few times but never ran in Central Park.
