Boston Running and Boulder Hiking

Last week I had a quick business trip to Boston, a city I love to visit but don’t get to very often. I was glad this trip fell just after the switch back to Eastern Standard Time, because that meant I could wait for daybreak before heading out for a run. The night before I almost wimped out over the cold, but since I only had packed cold weather running gear, my only option was to suck it up and brave the cold. I’m so glad I did because it ended up being a glorious autumn morning in Boston!

Autumn In Boston

The George Washington Statue in Boston Public Garden

The last time I was in Boston I participated in a running tour of the area, so I decided to recreate some of that route on my own.

Running Through Boston Public Garden

I ran from my hotel near the Prudential Center over to Commonwealth Avenue, up through the Commonwealth Avenue park to Boston Public Garden, and around and through Boston Common. My first photo stop was at the George Washington Statue (above). My second was at the Massachusetts State House:

My next mission was to find the Make Way For Ducklings installation.

By then, it was full daylight and I was soaking up every gorgeous moment!

I thought these real ducks deserved a picture.

The Boston Women’s Memorial

I decided to run back through Commonwealth Avenue park again, and stopped to read the inscriptions on the statues of the Boston Women’s Memorial. While it didn’t turn out to be as momentous a day for women as I had hoped, I’m sure these women would have been glad to know that there was a woman on the ballot for President of The United States.

Weekly Wrap

Weekly WrapThe rest of my week was less photogenic:
On Wednesday, I went to my second CycleBar class.
(Check out my CycleBar review here)
On Thursday I did a strength routine at home.
On Friday, we traveled to Colorado to visit my daughter.
On Saturday, I used the J&J Seven Minute App to create a 25 minute body weight workout to do in the hotel gym, and then we all went for a hike up Mount Sanitas in Boulder.
On Sunday, I did another workout using the Seven Minute App before heading to the airport. (It’s a fantastic free app–check out my review here.)

  1. You always do take great photos while you run!

  2. I love all the traveling you get to do for your job! I’d have trouble working–I’d want to explore on my feet!

And yes, one of my favorite books that I used to read to my boys was Make Way for Ducklings. I want to see the swan boats. When my sister and I were in Austin, there were people in these weird swan paddle boats. I just couldn’t do it…

i love boston – what a great way to see the city, too!!

  4. Such awesome pics! You’re lucky to do so much traveling…I’d love exploring all those places in my running shoes.

  5. I have only been to Boston to run the marathon. And while I was there I didn’t get to sight see near as much as I would have liked. Looks like you had some great run while you were there.

  6. I have to say you do a great job of taking running tours of great cities! Great pictures! Boston is so twisty and turny, I would for sure get lost. I especially love the ducks – real and statue varieties 🙂

  7. Sonia says:

Lots of travel this week! My kids enjoyed the Make Way for Ducklings book when they were little.

  8. Kelli says:

Wow, you had a busy week! Looks like you did enjoy some fabulous weather for sightseeing on your run in Boston. Very fitting to share a photo of the Women’s Memorial as well.

  9. I might be “ready”, but I’m never ready!

And I’ve never run through Boston (only the Newton hills in the Heartbreak Half which is outside of Boston). How fun!

And being in CO (and seeing your daughter, too, I’m sure) is never bad either.

Although Make Way For Ducklings is pretty impressive, I’m happy to see the real ducks getting equal consideration. I’ve never been to Boston. It looks like a lovely city to visit. And, I’ve never visited to Boulder although I’ve been to CO a couple of times. I need to check out that Seven Minute App. Thanks for linking, Coco!

I love the Boston tour, I have never been 🙂 It looks beautiful. It is nice you get to travel places for work and have time to take in the area.

  12. Boston is so pretty, I really need to make my way up there for a run!

I saw that you were in Colorado, I was there last week and loved it! I’ll have to make a trip back and maybe check out Denver.

  13. I love seeing cities by running and your run tour of Boston looks fabulous.

  14. Marcia says:

Beautiful tour! I’ve only spent time in Boston the years I was there to run the marathon so I’d love to go back without the pressure of that and needing to be off my feet, etc. I do well remember Boston Common and that duck pond with the swan boats though. Somehow I wandered away from the reunion area and my family found my marathon-addled carcass leaning up against a tree trying to put on my sweats. Ha!

  15. Karen says:

What an awesome run! I love that you recreated your running tour! Such beautiful sights!

  16. Mike Horner says:

Love your posts and the way you insert pictures from your run.

  17. Coco I think you have me beat with all your traveling. You always find great spots to run in! Wow these views from Colorado are amazing but then again the Boston ones are pretty great too!

  18. Farrah says:

I went to Boston that same weekend to visit a childhood friend I hadn’t seen in years (we’re finally in the same time zone again!!). 😀 I wonder if I inadvertently walked past you at some point without knowing it? I went to the Prudential Center, Boston Public Garden and Make Way For Ducklings installation too! 😀

  19. Love the photos. I lived in Boston for 5 years and have such great memories.
