Physiclo Resistance Pants Review

When the people from Physiclo reached out to me, I was wary of agreeing to try out running pants in mid-April, but Mother Nature cooperated with another blast of cold weather, so the timing ended up being just right. Another thing that was just right was their customer service as I figured out which size was right for me–they were very responsive to my emails and sent a new size right away. I assume they’d treat their paying customers just as well!

Physiclo Resistance Pants Review
So, what’s so special about Physiclo running pants? As explained on their website, their pants are made with built-in resistance bands designed to “engages the quadriceps, hamstrings, hip abductors, and gluteus muscle groups.” You acutally can see the resistance bands inside the pants, and I could feel them as I ran.

This image from Physiclo shows where the pants have added resistance:

Despite all this technology, they look like normal running pants (whatever that means!) and don’t feel too tight. (I actually downsized from the S to the XS and am happy with that decision.) While the bands are noticeable, they aren’t uncomfortable.

Why should you try Physclo resistance pants? They are designed to make your muscles work harder, so you will get stronger, fitter, and faster–what runner doesn’t want that? They’ve done some testing and found that wearing their pants while running can result in a 14% increase in calories burned and 23% increase in muscle activity. I love when a company backs up its claims with scientific testing.

I had two great runs in my Physiclo resistance pants this week, and I’m glad to be adding them to my arsenal of running gear. Now they need to come out with a women’s shorts model to get me through the summer.

Speaking of this week’s runs, here’s my recap for the Weekly Wrap link up hosted by Holly and Tricia. Remember I promised to cut back? ? See if you think I followed through.

Monday: 45 min indoor cycling class

spinning

Tuesday: Forced rest day starting with the 7am Acela to NYC

Wednesday: 40 min strength workout in the hotel gym

Thursday: 6 X 800s at the track:

6 x 800s track workoutI was aiming for a 7:50 pace. Maybe I averaged that?

Friday: 3o minute strength workout focusing
on core exercises followed by some stretching

stretch

Saturday: 8 mile long run

long run physiclo resistance pants Since the Physiclo resistance pants are supposed to make my legs work harder, I don’t think they should make me run faster when I’m wearing them, but I don’t know how else to explain that pace! Maybe cutting back on lower body strength work made a difference. Or maybe my legs were just happy to be out running on a glorious spring morning.

Sunday: 33 mile bike ride

spring tulips bike ride

Such a gorgeous day!

So, how did I cut back? I restrained myself from running in NYC, focused on upper body and core work on my strength days, and didn’t try to squeeze in a Core Power Yoga class. With my 10 mile race next weekend I’m going to try to show similar restraint this week. Since I rode Sunday I won’t be going to spinning on Monday, but I will be running before my all-day meeting in Chicago on Tuesday if I have anything to say about it!

  1. Glad to hear you liked the pants! I’m supposed to trial them too, but I haven’t received mine yet. Hmmmm…. I like the idea of running faster!

  2. I’ve never heard of pants like that how interesting!

  3. Karen says:

Ha! I am not sure I would call that a cut back week 🙂 Lots of great work accomplished though! It is time to enjoy the great days while we can.
I am intrigued by the pants…you are right, they need shorts for summer!
Speed work is looking awesome, btw.

  4. I was just thinking the same thing, they ought to come out with those same compression pants but in a short! Perhaps they are working on that?

  5. Meagan says:

I had to Google ‘Acela’ so now I know what that is 🙂 If I ever go to NYC I want to take a train to get there. I think you did a good job cutting back this past week. Stick to your plans this week so you can have a good race for your 10 miler! It’ll be worth it, right?

    • Coco says:

Hah, I guess the Acela is a Boston-NYC-DC work thing. Amtrak is great and you can change tickets with no fee which is so nice when my meetings finish early.

  6. Carla says:

(((whispers))) I sweated soo soo much in mine but I blame texas not the brand 🙂

  7. Pam says:

Those pants sound really interesting, but I am not sure I would like those bands. However, additional speed would really be a plus. Hopefully this week goes well so you are ready for your race next weekend.

  8. What an interesting concept for pants! They definitely look normal, which is a plus.
Nice job cutting back a bit- which ten miler are you doing? I’m running Broad street in two weeks.

  9. I have never heard of these resistance pants. I have only wore compression pants and I do not think they are anything special. I’d like to try these to see if they really make a difference. Sounds like they have got good reviews.

    • Coco says:

In winter and for cool weather races I wear compression pants as insurance against ITB issues. And compression shorts don’t ride up so I wear those to prevent chafing!

  10. These pants sound really interesting! I actually don’t have any compression pants so they look really interesting! Sometimes it’s tough to cut back when you’re in a good groove, but you had a great week of working out!

  11. Chaitali says:

Those pants sound interesting. I’ve never heard of them before. And I love that field of flowers in your Sunday photo 🙂

  12. Nicole says:

I have never heard of these pants. It’s an interesting concept. Good luck on your 10 miler next week.

  13. Those pants sound cool! I love the idea of running faster and burning more calories! Bonus!

  14. I don’t wear much compression gear, except socks, after long runs… which have been a life saver. I am actually a bit scared that compression will mean tight and I hate anything tight around my waist or cutting into my muscles !

    Yeah to hotel gyms.

    • Coco says:

These were pretty comfortable – even in the XS – and definitely were not tight on my stomach. My CW-X pants are tighter there.

  15. Hey I like the idea of running faster too!!! I’d even take that over more calories ha! Ok, maybe not… 🙂
Did you notice that the picture of you doing the plank in the hotel mirror looks as if your suspended in the air, ha!
Thank you Coco for linking up with us.

  16. HoHo Runs says:

The Physiclo pants are a very interesting concept. It’s a very short period of time that I actually wear pants during the year — I don’t know about that. But hey faster is faster, so I could put up with the extra sweat. You had great speedwork paces! I hope you have another awesome 10 mile race this weekend, sans wind. Thanks for linking with us Coco.

  17. Marcia says:

I love compression gear and have CWX in a couple of different lengths but I’ve never heard of this brand. Sounds good though!

  18. I follow Physiclo on instagram – their product looks interesting – glad to hear you thought they worked. I wear compression a lot for recovery and I swear by it.

  19. Leslie says:

I actually did the opposite and went from xs to small, I was a little to optimistic:)
I don’t understand all the technology but I have gained a lot of confidence when wearing them.
