Five Things That Frustrate Runners

Today’s Friday Five theme is “favorites” but since today is tax day* I thought it might be more fitting to share five things that frustrate runners.

FIVE THINGS THAT FRUSTRATE RUNNERS

*If you aren’t ready to file your taxes yet, this year you actually have until April 18 because today is a legal holiday in Washington, D.C., in observance of Emancipation Day. Emancipation Day marks the day that President Lincoln signed the District of Columbia Emancipation Act, which ended slavery in Washington, D.C.

Things That Frustrate Runners

1. Heading out for a run–or even worse, a race–and discovering that your Garmin wasn’t connected to the charger correctly and only has 5% battery life.

2. Getting to your running trail and realizing that you don’t have your phone/iPod/headphones. (This really did happen to me at a race.

3. After a week of gorgeous weather while you were stuck at work, waking up on your long run day to rainy/windy/snowy weather.

4. Learning that your favorite running shoes have been discontinued. Or that the new model was tweaked just enough to give you blisters.

5. Missing a PR by a few seconds.

  1. I have experienced that w my Garmin not being charged on a run. Luckily it was only a run and not a race. But I did forget my headphones one time at a race. It ended up working out though bc I PR the race. Maybe bc I wasn’t busy singing away like I usually
do when I have them in.

If a race had a lot of crowd support I might be able to do without my music, but I usually need it to keep me going.

  2. yep – all of the above!!! especially number 5!!

  3. ugg- I have been working on taxes this week! and yes to all of those- very aggravating! #1 just happened last weekend!

    • Coco says:

I don’t know why Garmins are so hard to plug in correctly. Maybe it’s because each model has its own @#$*(% charger.

  4. People walking or running 5 abreast on a path will make me want to murder them. I can’t jump over you, people!

  5. Oh Yes! These made me laugh! So true!

  6. yes to all of those especially the weather!! It’s gorgeous today though 🙂 No on the taxes we got an extension

    • Coco says:

I never could figure out how to take an extension since you have to pay what you owe anyway (don’t you?) and if I could figure that out, I’d file my taxes — so we use an accountant now. 😉

  7. Well, lack of speed when I do speedwork, hill repeats, etc. frustrates me. I just want to be average; I’m not greedy!

Getting a pebble in your shoe at the beginning of your run is very frustating!

  8. These are all so true! But the shoe thing really gets me. I don’t know why shoe manufacturers can’t abide by the “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it” rule!

  9. Elizabeth says:

Yes to all of these! I am notorious for 1 and 2. I am always forgetting something. ESPECIALLY if it is race day!

  10. Chaitali says:

I dread when new models of my shoes come out because I’m worried that they’ll have made some small change that will make the shoes not work for me. I cross my fingers every time!

  11. So true about all of these – especially #4, it’s why I always feel like I’m on a quest for the perfect shoe – all of my faves keep getting tweaked.

  12. Marcia says:

    Taxes are filed!
Ugh to all of these. Last fall I went to a race with a fully charged phone but it mysteriously had zero charge when I got into the city. So disappointing. Don’t even let me start about shoes.

  13. Hubby finally finished the taxes two days ago. Talk about cutting it close! The things that frustrate me about running most is the INJURIES! lol

  14. Kristen says:

OMG yes to all of these! Especially #3. That’s how I’ve been feeling lately in Alaska – it’s been sunny and 60 degrees during the week, and as soon as we get off work or the weekend starts it will start raining or get much colder. So annoying!

  15. Darlene says:

    Yes to all of yours.

I just found my perfect shoe and they’re already out with the new model.

  16. Sonia says:

Taxes filed! Ugh. #1 and #5 are so annoying! Running a race where the course is short or long (by a LOT) and when the course volunteers don’t know where to tell you to go (and the course is not marked well) rank up there.

  17. Thanks for the Garmin reminder! I’m plugging it in as we speak!

  18. Oh my gosh why is it always sunny and gorgeous when I am working and then raining on weekend for my long run? Why?

  19. #3! #3! #3!!! That’s the one that gets me.

  20. Steena says:

    haha @ #3! That’s my life.
