Favorite Restaurant Meals In Arlington Virginia

My husband and I usually have a “date night” every weekend, and it usually involves going out to dinner. As we were deciding where to go last weekend, I realized that I have a favorite thing to order at most of the restaurants we go to, and tend to order the same thing almost every time.

Favorite Restuarant Meals

For today’s Friday Five Link Up, I’m going to share five of my favorite restaurant meals, which all happen to be at restaurants in Arlington, Virginia. See what other food things people are talking about today over at EatPrayRunDC, MarOnTheRun and You Signed Up For What?!

1. I’ll start with my newest favorite restaurant meal, which is the Short Smoked Grilled Salmon Salad at Carlyle in Shirlington, Virginia. The name of this salad threw me at first, but the waiter explained that they cold smoke the salmon fillets before grilling them–it adds an undertone of smoky flavor and really is delicious. The rest of the salad reminds me of a salade nicoise, with salad greens, hard boiled egg, green beans, fingerling potatoes and black olives. Yum!

2. Another favorite fish dish is the Grilled Fish Tacos at Capital City Brewing Company, which has several locations, but we go to the one in Shirlington. There’s probably nothing spectacular about these fish tacos, but I really like how their coleslaw, grilled fish and corn tortillas come together.

3. Another restaurant we go to in Shirlington is Cheesetique. Their French Onion Press sandwich is like French onion soup in a sandwich–a pile of caramelized onions nestled in melted Gruyere cheese grilled between sourdough bread. It’s definitely indulgent, but oh so worth it!

4. When I am in the mood for a healthier meal, I often opt for the Revolution Diet Chicken at PING (also in Shirlington!), which is steamed, thinly sliced white meat chicken with steamed veggies (broccoli, zucchini, carrots, celery, snow pea, napa cabbage, and mushrooms), served with brown rise and a “brown” sauce on the side. It may sound boring, but it’s really nice to be able to get such a healthy meal out. Plus they have a surprisingly good beer menu. 😉

Lost Dog Cafe Burro Pizza
5. There are other restaurants in Shirlington we go to, but I can’t do a list of favorites without mentioning the Burro Pizza at Lost Dog Cafe (we usually go to the South Arlington location). It’s like a taco salad on a pizza, with refried beans, mozzarella and cheddar cheese, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes and black olives, all on a whole wheat crust. It may sound odd, but I promise it’s delicious.

  1. Ok you had me at carmelized onions. They all sound delish, but the french onion press sounds great! Thanks for sharing!

  2. Funny thing–I usually order fish when we go out. My husband (who cooks most of our meals) doesn’t like to prepare it at home. Sometimes he’ll cook salmon on the grill, but that’s the extent of it.

  3. Oooh that french onion press sounds tasty! I use to do that with spinach dip ( I know it was probably so unhealthy but it was so good…lol)

That french onion sandwich sounds heavenly! Thanks for sharing!

  5. I love trying new things!

We tend only to go to wherever my husband has a coupon for, which is good for the savings but sometimes I just wanna go where I wanna go.

I definitely do have favorites when we order in, but even then I’m always on the lookout for something new!

  6. ooh Cheestique sounds super yummy! Cheese is my jam and pizza

I haven’t been to Cheesetique, but it sounds delicious. Basically everything that I love about French food on a sandwich. Yummy. 🙂

I love the Lost Dog Cafe! And we used to go eat in Shirlington all the time when we lived in Arlington 🙂

  9. I love love love Shirlington! We moved to the area from DC almost a year ago and we’re never looking back. Carlyle’s is hands down my favorite restaurant. My favorite salad is the shrimp noodle salad… so good! But I’ve found that pretty much everything there is delicious. 🙂

  10. Cheesetique is now on our list of places to visit!

  11. Ana says:

That pizza looks and sounds amazing!! I’m getting too hungry now!

  12. I do like to try new things when we go out but living in a small town like we do it is easy to get in a rut!

  13. nicole says:

I have to say, I love fish tacos. I always order them at every restaurant I go to. They are always

  14. Pam says:

I love fish tacos and think that grilled would be so much better than the standard fried that most restaurants serve. French onion soup as a sandwich sounds so delicious. This is a great list to bookmark for our next trip to DC. Thanks for sharing but now I’m hungry!

  15. Sounds like I need to make my way to Shirlington for dinner!!

  16. Yum ! Makes me want to come to Arlington. The French soup sandwich sounds amazing.

  17. Jennifer says:

I’ll have to b0okmark this post. We don’t head over to Arlington that much, but this is good to have in case we do. Everything looks great!
