A Holiday Wish List You Can’t Buy In Stores

With a Friday Five topic of Holiday Wish List, I expect to see gift guides and stocking-stuffer ideas. I’m interested in seeing what you all suggest, but my holiday wish list is a little different.

Holiday Wish List

Maybe it’s because I’m older, my kids are older, and we all have everything we need, but Christmas is becoming less and less about shopping, wrapping, and gift-giving, and more and more about stepping off the crazy treadmill that is my day-to-day life and spending time with friends and family.

Holiday Wish List

With that in mind, here’s what I have on my holiday wish list:

1. Nice running weather. December has spoiled us so far with relatively mild temperatures, so maybe it is greedy to ask for more nice weather, but I love running this time of the year when I can crank up my Xmas Playlist and enjoy the lights and decorations in my neighborhood.

2. A well-behaved piriformis. Speaking of running, my cranky piriformis is showing signs of recovery and I am wishing hard for an injury-free New Year. I am doing my part with strength training exercises, trigger point massage with a lacrosse ball, and foam rolling, but Christine’s Runner’s Pledge for injury prevention and recovery reminds me that I need to be patient.

3. A quiet week in the office. We are going on vacation in January, so I will be working through the end of December, but I don’t mind as long as all my clients go on vacation and give me a quiet week in the office to catch up and get organized. So, dear clients, please have a nice holiday and don’t push too many items off your “to-do” list onto mine, OK?

4. Fun with family and friends. Even though I will have to go into the office most days, I should be able to escape work early and do fun things like ice skating, catching up on all the movies I still want to see (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, The Martian), baking more cookies, and, yes, even Christmas shopping.

Ice Skating

There is a skating rink right at my office
that I haven’t been to yet this year!

5. Peace On Earth. I know it’s cliche, but I really do wish for more peace on earth, or at least more peaceful discourse and respectful debate about how we can make the world a better and safer place for everyone. It’s something I’ve been thinking about and praying about, and trying to do my part doing about. To me, the most important “reason for the season”is to celebrate God’s love for us, and remember that God’s love is bigger and more powerful than any of us can imagine. So, let’s try to keep in that holiday spirit and treat each other with kindness.

  1. I agree with you! I am SO over all the “Commercial-ness” of Christmas. I’d love to do an old fashion simple Christmas with only the things that matter most but it’s hard to do when everyone around you is buying into to all the “artificial” Christmas stuff!

Oh, and you are spot on with this weather. This is the best December I can remember in years!

  2. This is my kind of list 🙂 I’ve been doing what I can to not get sucked into the madness and focusing more on time with family and friends.

  3. Great list! Injury free is always good. And a quiet december is always good, too; my husband usually has a very quiet december at work.

My top wish right now is peace for Chester; he took a turn for the worst yesterday. We’re trying to give him a few days to see if he comes out of it, since he’s still walking & eating, but he’s really struggling to breath. 🙁

  4. I love this! I want all of these things too!! I’m trying not to get sucked into the holiday craziness but man it’s hard sometimes. I’m looking forward to a (hopefully) quiet week next week and spending time with family over the holidays.

I’ve really been enjoying getting gifts for my young nieces and nephews this year but as for the rest of it, I’m definitely with you on mostly wanting a happy and peaceful holiday season 🙂 Our office tends to be quiet around the end of December too and I always look forward to that bit of a break to catch up on things I’ve been putting off.

  6. I love this! I’m hoping your wish list is fully granted!!! I love that we both put our own spin on this week’s topic!

  7. YEs! This is the list I should have made. Peace on Earth and good running weather are on my list too! 🙂

  8. We have already had the perfect fall weather this year! I am all about spending time with family and friends.

  9. Great perspective. I’m hoping for the nice weather to continue too, and now I want to ice skate! There are 2 nice rinks in Philly and I’ve never been to either of them…I haven’t skated in years!

  10. Agree 100% with the client comment. Clients are people too, so I am hoping they go away, and because this is Europe, it will probably be for at least 2 weeks. I am really excited!

  11. Diane says:

I love your Holiday Wish List and hope it all comes true for you and for everyone! Happy Holidays, Happy Running, Happy Family Time, and Peace on Earth!

  12. Great holiday list. Hope all of those work out which would make for a great month.
