Night And Day In New York City

This week I spent 24.5 hours in New York City. I went there to speak at a conference about new patent issues facing pharmaceutical companies, and if that’s all I did, I wouldn’t be blogging about it. 🙂 But, since I managed to squeeze in dinner and a play with one of my BFFs from high school and a lovely run through Central Park, I have some pictures to share with you.

Lotte Palace Hotel

The conference was held at a lovely hotel that was built in 1882 and recently underwent an $18M renovation. (Yes, business travel does have some perks!). The outside was gorgeous and the lobby spaces were so elegant! My room was modern and quite spacious–not “New York” sized at all.

My Night In New York City

The hotel was across the street from St. Patrick’s Cathedral, which I could spend hours gazing at–and probably would have it had been a bit warmer, of if I’d packed a coat!

I wrapped up my work with just enough time to walk to where I was meeting my friend for dinner. I was in a bit of a hurry and didn’t want to be too obnoxious blocking the sidewalk to try to get a good picture, but I couldn’t resist snapping this one as I crossed Broadway.

Broadway

So much to see!

We had a lovely dinner, with just enough time to enjoy a glass of wine, fill our bellies with Italian food, and catch up on recent life events before it was time to head to the theater.

A Gentleman's Guide

We saw A Gentleman’s Guide To Love And Murder, a musical comedy set in the 1900s. I hadn’t been to a play in ages, and really enjoyed it.

On the way back to my hotel, the streets were filled with tourists instead of commuters, so I shamelessly angled for the perfect shot of Radio City Music Hall.

Or is this one better?

My Day In New York City

My goal for the morning was to run in Central Park. I waited until 6:00 am to head out, but it still was darker than I expected. As much as I complain about early Christmas decorations (#RespectTheBird), I was really glad to see the holiday decorations in New York City. I ran past some fancy store windows, and even blingier buildings decorated with light displays several stories tall.

Since I didn’t have my headlamp, I stayed on East Drive instead of running through the park trails until I got to the reservoir.

Central Park

It was a grey morning, but the skyline still looked beautiful. As it got lighter, I wished I could start my run all over again to really enjoy the park.

Central Park

There were so many runners out–and groups of cyclists! I hope they appreciated their surroundings as much as this tourist did.

From the outside your life looks like nonstop go go go and FUN (and work :-)) but I imagine it has to be exhausting as well.
If only there were no work involved and just the travel fun?
Im traveling for thanksgiving–but just to dallas 🙂

Great photos, Coco! I love everything about visiting NYC. My middle daughter lives there and early morning runs with her along the East River are the best! The city is so noisy and crowded though — after a recent long visit that included two days of work meetings — I couldn’t wait to get on the Vamoose bus and head home. The city is SO noisy and crowded, I had a headache! 😉

  3. I’ve been to NYC once, and I didn’t get to run! So I’m thinking I need to go back…

  4. Ah looks like a fun night and a fun run. I ran in Central Park once a few years ago and got so lost!!

I’ve been to NYC twice, both times in late November. The holidays lights are wonderful! I have run in Central Park with my sister and it is one of my fondest memories! It looks like the trees are still pretty there. Beautiful pictures!

  6. This is always one of my favorite times of the year to be in NYC!

  7. You made the best of 24 hours! What a nice trip. I want to run thru the park one day too- I think it is a NYC must do! My shopping list is still in my head waiting for final revisions 🙂

  8. Nice photos, Coco. I maybe heading to NYC for a long weekend in January – hope I’ll fit in a CP run.

I’m so glad that you got to see a play and still enjoy the sitting a little bit in between your conference! I really hope to visit NYC one day during Christmas season. It looks beautiful!

I love your photos of Central Park. I have such fond memories of my time there just a few weeks ago when I ran through the park to finish the NYC Marathon. It is a lovely place to run. You also did some really fun stuff in the short time you spent in the city. Seeing a show is always a great option
