Five Things I Love About The Friday Five Link Up

Happy anniversary to the Friday Five Link Up hosted by the Courtney, Cynthia and Mar–a/k/a the D.C. Trifecta! The theme they picked for this week is “5 Things I Love” and I am going to celebrate the anniversary of my second-favorite link up by sharing five things I love about the Friday Five Link Up.

Friday Five Link Up

My favorite link up is the monthly Coffee Date Link Up I co-host with Deborah and Lynda–grab the badge from my sidebar and mark your editorial calendar for the first Saturday of every month. 😉

Five Things I Love About The Friday Five Link Up

  1. The hosts. Courtney, Cynthia and Mar are genuine bloggers, great community builders on and off the internet, and good friends. I’ve been lucky to meet them in person and can vouch for the fact that they are just as fun “in real life” as they come across on their blogs–Eat Pray Run DCYou Signed Up for What?!  and Mar on the Run
  2. The themes. I’m sure it wasn’t easy coming up with 2 years’ worth of Friday Five themes, but they’ve had some really fun ones. I’ve built playlists from the “favorite songs” themes, added to my race calendar from the “favorite races” themes, tried recipes from the foodie themes, and learned from and/or laughed with other themes.
  3. The fives. We’re told that lists are good for SEO and list posts make good click bait, but I like reading Friday Five posts because they give me enough information without exhausting my attention span. I also like the discipline of focusing on five things about a single topic or picking my favorite five ____ to write about.
  4. The flexible rules. Blog link ups need rules to give them structure and purpose, but  some rules are made to be broken. I appreciate that Courtney, Cynthia and Mar don’t mind if you go off-topic once in a while, as long as your post fits the Friday Five format.
  5. The participants. Link ups are only as successful as the people who participate, and I find that Friday Five bloggers are great at visiting and commenting on other blogs in the link up. I’ve discovered so many great blogs through the Friday Five Link Up, and created a “Friday Five” list in Bloglovin’ so I can keep up with Friday Five bloggers the other six days of the week. (You can follow me on Bloglovin’ here.)

Im with you on the number three for that same reason.
I like the snippets behind peoples lives and these post always leave me wanting MORE.

  2. Love number 5. Meeting other bloggers through the link up has been really fun. I also find that sometimes it is hard to come up with topics and generally the topics give everyone a great jump on point. It is surprising how many different takes there are on the same topic.

  3. Hear, hear!

I love not having to think up subjects, sometimes. And I love all linkup hosts — they’re the best!

  4. Chaitali says:

I agree, such a great link up! I’ve found a lot of wonderful blogs through it as well and I love how organized it is 🙂

  5. Great reasons indeed! I’ve loved meeting and connecting with other bloggers the past few years.

  6. I am SO glad that this linkup has introduced me to awesome local runners and bloggers, like you! You are right, sometimes picking topics is not the easiest but we really love the community we have around the linkup and it’s been awesome. I love your linkup as well and am going to make a notation now so I don’t miss it next month!! 🙂

  7. Great list ! I love the themes too… finding ideas is one of the things I struggle with so their link up always offers inspiration.

  8. This is definitely a great link-up for sure! I love the hosts and I love the fun of reading about 5 different things. The variety of topics is great too!

  9. aw, thank you so much!!! It’a been great to host and even better when we get you all in person!! Love it – here’s to 2 more years… eek.

  10. I like the fri five too. I find it’s easier to read when Posts are set up that way When there is a certain topic being discussed.

  11. HoHo Runs says:

I’m pretty certain I “met” you through the Friday Five as well as quite a few other awesome bloggers. It’s been a wonderful resource for that.

  12. I’m pretty sure I found your blog through Friday Five! 🙂

There have been so many terrific Friday Five topics that I’m not sure I can pick one favorite!

  13. I love how many bloggers I’ve connected with through this link up. Including the hosts!

  14. Marcia says:

I love the Friday 5! Just enough flexibility and still lots of fun. Yay for 2 years!

  15. Farrah says:

Ah, I really like the Friday Five linkup, but I only participate every here and there because I tend to try not to double-link-up in a single day. I definitely like the themes and the flexibility too! :]

  16. Kelli says:

Good points! I like the 5 things format and also that there is flexibility. Sometimes the prompts inspire me and others times they don’t (since I’m a reluctant runner but a triathlete and cyclist). General health and fitness and active topics are great! And the community is very supportive. I also love the Coffee date 🙂

  17. It’s really fun to see the different directions people take things with the prompts!!
