Things I Won’t Be Doing On Vacation

This week’s Friday Five theme is a fun one–A Day In The Life. But my life is so routine, only the weather has changed since I shared this glimpse into a day in my life in January. Because I’m going on vacation next week, I thought I’d mix it up and share five thing I won’t be doing. Five Things I Won't Be DoingOn Vaction

1. Running. Usually when I plan a vacation I have to figure out where and when I can sneak in a run without feeling too guilty about leaving my husband behind. With my lingering foot injury, that won’t be an issue this time, although I’m still packing my running shoes, Garmin, and Nathan hydration vest for all the hiking we plan to do. (That won’t bother my foot at all, right?)

2. Going to Starbucks. How can it be a vacation without Starbucks? I’m trying not to panic, but it doesn’t look like there’s a Starbucks near our hotel. I will have to make do with the in-room Keurig–oh, wait, maybe I should pack some Starbucks K-cups? 😉

3. Working. This is probably wishful thinking, but I am really going to try to delegate or defer any work “emergencies” that crop up next week. Yes, I will triage my emails every day and ask my secretary to text me if anything truly urgent comes up, but I’m pretty sure I need a week off more than my clients need legal advice before August 17th.

4. Blogging. I usually manage to keep up with blogging while on vacation, but I plan to limit my computer time next week and focus on doing things I can’t do at home. I’m sure I won’t be able to resist sharing pictures on Facebook and Instagram, but I don’t plan to pull out my laptop unless there’s a work emergency I can’t fend off.

5. Going to the movies. We often see a silly movie on vacation, but this time we got a head start and saw Vacation last weekend. I didn’t have high expectations, but for some reason my husband expected it to be better–or less bad. I guess that leaves Ant-Man or Pixels, but neither looks that interesting. Is it just me, or has this been a slow summer for movies?

  1. What?! There’s a new Vacation movie?! I did not know that but my family and I are die hard Christmas Vacation fans so I’ll have to check it out. Well, have fun taking time off from your normal, everyday things and enjoy your family vacation!

  2. I just went on a couple short vacations and Starbucks was very much needed. I had to go out of my way but it was worth it. Hotel coffee just was not cutting it.

I’m disappointed in Vacation. I haven’t actually gone to see it but I wanted to…sounds like it won’t be worth the effort from the reviews I’ve heard. Good luck staying work-free this vacation!

  4. Steena says:

Something that drives me crazy about our society today is the need to Instagram/Tweet/FaceBook every 2 minutes of their vacation. Put the phone away and ENJOY THE VACATION. Why do people think people at home car what they had for lunch? We don’t. When I go on vacation my phone gets turned off unless there’s a chance I’ll get separated from John somehow.
    Enjoy your vacation!

I’ll be sure to tag you in all my lunch photos. And breakfast. And coffee. 🙂 Seriously, I do hope to get some good pictures.

  5. What about Ricki & the Flash? That looks like fun! And definitely Mission Impossible. We haven’t been to the movies ALL summer.

Enjoy! Some cutting the cord on technology is a good thing.

  6. I wondered about that new Vacation movie… sounds like a great vacation plan- you need to unplug and rest up. Enjoy the hiking and be careful with that foot!

  7. Sounds like a perfect vacation and really focusing on the reason you are getting away! It’s okay to save all that other stuff for at home. Enjoy!

  8. i hope you have a lovely vacation and your laptop doesn’t get put to use at all! 🙂

I hope you have a great vacation with very little work! I’m bad about doing some work while on vacation too. It’s hard to leave things behind but I’m sure it will be much better for you to really relax 🙂

  13. It can be good to just unwind and unplug. Sometimes, I feel like I need a vacation-from-a vacation, because I had too much planned! Enjoy! Relaxation is good!

  14. GiGi Eats says:

WOO WOO on the NO WORKING OR BLOGGING!!! Go enjoy your vacation!!

When I went to NZ & AUS earlier this year, I felt sooooo guilty for taking two weeks off from blogging, but it was so worth it! AND NO ONE DIED 😉

    • Coco says:

I think there’s always the fear that if I stop, I won’t start again. Just like really unplugging from work – I could get used to it! 🙂

I predict that you will use an app or the mapping on your phone to find the nearest Starbucks, and then make the trek? Please pick me up a blueberry scone when you do.

  20. Ant Man was actually kind of enjoyable. As was Mission Impossible. Stay away from The Gift, that was a waste.

    Have a fabulous vacation!
