Healthy Travel Tips And Tricks

After a brief respite at the beginning of the year, I’ve been on several trips over the past few weeks. With the summer travel season upon us, I thought I’d share some of my healthy travel tips ans tricks.

Travel Tips

1. Pack healthy snacks. When I’m packing, I feel like I’m taking a ridiculous amount of healthy snacks with me, but knowing that I have good food to eat saves me from greasy airport food and outrageous airport prices. Why spend $3 on a Kind bar at the airport Starbucks when you can bring a whole box from home? I usually start my trips with an early morning flight, and bring a hard cooked egg to eat for breakfast after I get through security.

Having a package of Eggland’s Best pre-cooked eggs on hand
makes this meal almost grab-and-go easy.

2. Take a picture of your parking place. You may wonder how this is a healthy travel trick, but only if you haven’t roamed the airport parking garage late at night after a cross-country flight, on the verge of tears because you can’t even remember which level your car is on. (On the bright side, I did get in a lot more steps than I bargained for.) I never think I’ll forget where my car is, but now I take a picture as insurance against airplane-induced brain fog.

 3. Bring a refillable water bottle. Even though you can’t take water through airport security, you can take an empty water bottle. My favorite airports have these water bottle filling stations on the other side of the screening area.

4. Check out the hotel gym at check in. I usually don’t workout the day I check in to a hotel, but I try to check out the hotel gym so I know what I’m in for. If it’s small, I know I will have to get up early to beat the crowds. If they don’t have free weights, I know I will have to use my 7 Minute Workout App for strength exercises. If the treadmill looks wonky, I know to ask the concierge about nearby running routes ….

5. Avoid hotel vending machines. My supply of healthy snacks keeps me away from the chips and cookies in most hotel vending machines, but this one did get my attention –although not my dollars!

Speaking of travel, I’m off to Fitbloggin’ in Denver–I hope to see you there!

These are some of my favorite travel tips! Why buy a protein bar at the airport when you can buy the box and bring them. I over pack healthy snacks too but it’s so worth it! I also check out the gym beforehand. Great post!

  9. Hotel gyms are a good place to refill your water bottle too.
