The March 2015 Ultimate Coffee Date Link Up

Welcome to the March 2015 edition of the Ultimate Coffee date link up! It is so nice to take time out of our hectic schedules to get to know each other a little better over a virtual cup of coffee or tea, or your beverage of choice!

If we were having coffee, I would have to show off the fun coffee mug that my awesome co-host Deb had made for us!

Ultimate Coffee Date Mug

I know my co-host Lynda is enjoying hers too!

If we were having coffee, I would tell you about the snowy weather at the Reston 10 Miler last weekend. (You can read my recap here). I was happy with my time, but laughed when I figured out that with my pace I’d have to be at least 65 in order to win an age group prize–we’ve got some awesome female runners around here!

If we were having coffee, I would have to explain why I am a bit emotional today. You see, it’s this little guy’s birthday. But he’s turning 21, and it’s his first day of Spring Break, and he’s spending it with friends in New York City, so I won’t even see him.

Matt Toddler

Now, I don’t remember how I celebrated my 21st birthday–not because it was that awesome, but because it was that long ago!–but I am sure that I didn’t spend it with my parents. Still, as a parent, it is hard not to be a part of such a milestone. (Although I am sure I am better off not knowing exactly how he is celebrating ….).

Speaking of Spring Break, if we were having coffee I would have to ask, “Is it spring yet?” While the Polar Vortex didn’t get as much press this year, our February temperatures were 9 degrees below average, and we had so many days in the teens and twenties. And can you believe we had a snow day on Thursday?!

And, speaking of spring, don’t forget that we “Spring Forward” tonight for Daylight Saving Time. I think we have a few clocks that we still need to change ourselves, but since I use my phone for my alarm I have to count on AT&T and Apple to wake me up on time tomorrow![Tweet “Join the March #CoffeeDate Link Up!”]

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I’ve been in a rut of evening snacking, and am trying MealEnders signaling lozenges via a sponsored opportunity through FitApporaoch to break that habit. If you struggle with the same issue, I’d encourage you to check out my review and enter the giveaway.

Are you going anywhere for Spring Break?

The snow looks beautiful! I know cold and inconvenient but it makes for lovely pictures. Happy birthday to your son.

  2. Wow! look at that snow! Happy Birthday to your son- it is a day for you to celebrate too! My kids bd’s are starting to make me feel old! I am sure March will bring on some better weather although it is only 54 degrees this morning in Florida!!!! Have a great weekend Coco!

  3. I wish I was going away for Spring break…..only 1 month before I head to Paris though, so I’ll take that even if it will be chilly!

  4. Lisa says:

I wish I was on spring break! Mine will have to wait a few weeks. I know I didn’t spend my 21st birthday with my family. My birthday is always right around the start of school so I was already back in college that week. I hope he has a great birthday!

  5. Glenneth says:

no spring break for me anymore! i am just hoping for some warmer weather and sunshine!

  6. Happy birthday Mom! My daughter just celebrated her 11th birthday and of course wants to be with all of her family. I’m not ready for the larger milestone celebrations that she will start celebrating less with us. I’m pretty sure when I celebrated 21, it was not with my parents either. They grow up too fast!
Thanks for having a coffee date link up!! I love the mug!

    • Coco says:

We were lucky that even through the teen years my kids wanted big family dinners to celebrate, but now they are too far away!

  7. Marcia says:

Best wishes to the birthday boy! Sigh. Time flies. What a cutie! I spent my 21st birthday out after work in a club. I didn’t drink. Still don’t some things never change I guess. I feel like our winter here was every bit as harsh as last year’s vortex. Our average temp for Feb was 7.

  8. I still think you all rock for completing that Reston race in those conditions. Glad you like your mug! My baby turns 18 soon it’s kind of weird isn’t it how fast it all goes by. I’m kind of sad. Loving our link up!

  9. Wow 21! Happy birthday to your son – what a sweet picture of him 🙂 So glad we got to catch up for coffee – thanks for hosting!

    • Coco says:

Still sad I won’t be seeing you for the Cherry Blossom – at least we have our April coffee date to look forward to. 😉

  10. I feel you about the snow. We had just a little bit here in Tennessee but then the weather decided to go from spring-like 60s to winter-like 20s in the span of 3 days. I am ready for spring to get here and stay 🙂

  12. Carrie Skoll says:

Happy Birthday to your son! I can see how it’s hard to not be there, but also good to not be there.

Congrats on your race – I’ve got some catching up to do on blog reading. And I hope your snowy weather is done – although you’ve had some beautiful pictures.

    • Coco says:

The snow is lovely when I can watch it out my window. It’s when the sidewalks are still crappy a few days later that I would like to wish it away!

  13. I love the Coffee Mug!! Yeah, I’m pretty sure you’re better off not knowing how he is celebrating his 21st birthday. I remember mine, but I was with a now EX and so it was not a pleasant memory. It was also 19yrs ago…yikes!
Enjoy your day!! Thanks for the link up! 🙂

    • Coco says:

I need to figure out how I celebrated — I was just married, I’m sure we went out to “our” place, I’m sure there was drinking and dancing, but that’s all I can come up with! 😉

      • That’s how I feel now with my 40th. My mom and sister want to come from Kansas to Iowa to “celebrate” the only problem is they are just going to want to go drinking, and I’m not into that anymore. It was cool when I was 21 but not now..sigh..
I think a nice dinner with hubby sounds better!

  14. Aw, what a precious picture of your brand-spankin’ new 21 year-old. Happy birthday to him!

  15. I am so over winter. I don’t want to see snow again ever LOL. I’m just hoping everything melts for next weekend as we all know DC snow removal leaves a lot to be desired.

Happy birthday to your not so little guy! I’m still having trouble wrapping my head around my kid being 13.

    • Coco says:

I think the sun and rain will do their jobs before next weekend–I do hate how long the crud hangs around after the pretty snow is gone.

  16. Aww happy birthday to your baby!!

  17. Tamara says:

While I don’t envy the volume of snow you guys have had, I do wish we had had just a little bit this year. Our ski runs have been shut down as there’s been no new snow in a couple of months and it’s just not cold enough to maintain the manufactured stuff!

Hoping spring isn’t very far off…

  18. Don’t kids grow up so fast ? My baby is going into high school next year. Yikes ! I am going to check out those lozenges…. evening snacking is often a downfall for me….

Keeping fingers crossed for spring, which is just around the corner.
Thanks for the link up !

  19. Kim says:

Happy birthday to your son – so exciting that he is 21!!!
We have spring weather today (it got up to 72) and I have loved every second. Our spring break starts next Friday – we are sticking around here most of the time. (I am headed to TX the last weekend for a race.)

  20. Thanks for the link up! I am going to need a bigger cup! (Love yours by the way!)

Read your race report – that is still a great run for all of the misadventures, a fall, the weather and no expectations. No AG awards needed 😉

21! Yes, probably better not to know. At least NYC is really expensive so less opportunity for abandon than in a college bar 😉

    • Coco says:

Hah, yes! It looks like he focused on fine dining, but I’m sure there was some consumption of adult beverages!

  21. Happy birthday to your son!! Sorry you won’t be able to celebrate with him on his special day! We are headed to Florida in April for some time in the sun. Yes!!

  22. Farrah says:

For serious, I cannot wait until spring, hahaha. I’m sad that we lost an hour though–I kinda wanted that extra bit of weekend to catch up on things!

Spring break no longer exists for me, but one can dream! I would be someplace warm if I had one. *-*

    • Coco says:

Yeah, why can’t lose an hour of Monday?! And change the clocks mid-day to spring forward over the mid-afternoon slump? Thanks for stopping by for coffee!

  23. I know it was a dozen years ago, but I am sure I spent my 21st at bars with my friends and not with my parents. I think that is one that kids just go out for. However, I will happily spend my 33rd with my parents soon. As he gets older he will want to spend more of them with you.

  24. Carla says:

    wow.
    21.
I know it feels eons away and yet will be here in a BLINK.
    (and then I sleep)

  25. I am late but finally here. The weekend was filled with a 5k and a birthday party. I recall when our first born turned 21 {oh my}. What a bitter sweet time in your life right now. I can’t imagine the weather for most of the nation. We are just having a grand time outdoors with temps in the 70’s and t-shirts and flipflops 🙂 We do need much more rain though badly, too bad we can’t find a way to send all the water from the East to the West. 🙂 Happy coffee chat

  26. Brittany says:

Thanks for sharing! Sorry for joining the coffee party late!
