Five Thanksgiving Recipes

Can you believe Thanksgiving is barely a week away? Luckily my family looks forward to the same traditional foods every year, so I don’t have much meal planning to do. Still, I will have to brave the grocery store this weekend to get the ingredients for our favorite Thanksgiving recipes.

Five Recipties For Thanksgiving
From breakfast through dinner, here are five of our favorite holiday recipes that we look forward to every year.

If we have house guests, I like to make a batch of pumpkin banana bread the night before Thanksgiving for a simple breakfast that people can nibble on while I use the kitchen for more serious cooking.

My signature holiday dish is my raw Brussels sprouts salad. It’s easy to make if you have a food processor to slice the Brussels sprouts, and even easier if you buy a few bags of the pre-shredded Brussels sprouts I discovered at Trader Joe’s last year!

We always have to have mashed potatoes. I usually play around with the recipe, but the fluffy Chobani mashed potatoes I made last year were a big hit. We also have mashed sweet potatoes–hold the marshmallows!

While the potatoes are boiling, I usually put out a plate of cruditΓ©s (raw veggies) to help stave off hunger. Plain nonfat Chobani makes a good base for a guilt-free dip with Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing mix or French Onion Dip mix.

The other thing I am responsible for is the apple pie, which I make using four different types of apples following this “Blue-Ribbon Apple Pie” recipe.

I don’t have a recipe for the turkey, because we simply grill it on our old charcoal Weber grill (the only time we use it!). It cooks relatively quickly, turns a gorgeous golden color, and is fantastically moist. Plus, grilling the turkey keeps the oven free for more pies. πŸ˜‰

  3. Chobani Mashed Potatoes sounds really good. I really enjoy cauliflower mashed potatoes, so these definitely will be good since the Chobani will give it some real healthy creaminess.

We mash our sweet potatoes too! We make stuffing, cranberry sauce (so easy to make from scratch!), mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes, a jello thing called seafoam salad which sounds weird but tastes good, cornbread muffins, green beans, brussel sprouts…oh and turkey πŸ˜€

  5. That salad looks delicious! I should probably make that this year since we usually don’t have many veggies involved πŸ™‚ I looooove mashed potatoes and stuffing. If those were the only 2 things at Thanksgiving I’d be totally ok with that.
