Touring Toronto

If you joined me for our monthly coffee date on Saturday, you know that I spent the weekend in Toronto, celebrating my 26th wedding anniversary. While I finish unpacking, you might enjoy a few pictures from our first day touring Toronto.

Touring Toronto

The CN Tower

Our 6:00 am flight landed at Toronto Pearsons International Airport by 7:30, and even with customs (no wait!) and rush hour traffic (pfft!) we were at our hotel by 8:30. We were glad that our room was available already–and even gladder when we saw our harbour view!

The concierge suggested Hank’s for breakfast, and it was so good we went back again on Saturday. On our way to Hank’s we passed the Flatiron building, with this fantastic trompe l’oeil.

After breakfast, we strolled through the St. Lawrence Market, and then headed back towards Yonge Street, pausing to admire the architecture of St. James Cathedral.

We walked through the Eaton Center (a shopping mall dubbed the “premier shopping destination in Toronto”), and then strolled through the University of Toronto campus to do some window shopping along Bloor Street (a/k/a the “Mink Mile,” with stores like Tiffany and Prada).

We made our way to the Art Gallery of Ontario, taking a lunch break before we went in to see the Alex Colville exhibit. We browsed most of the rest of the gallery, and enjoyed the exhibit of Anishinaabe works (artists from the Algonquin, Mississauga, Nippissing, Ojibwe (Chippewa), Odawa (Ottawa), Potawatomi and Saulteaux nations). After all that art, I was experiencing sensory overload, so we walked back to our hotel for a short break before heading out again for dinner.

We decided to try our luck in the “entertainment district,” and ended up at The Red Tomato, where we shared a few “small plates.” After a leisurely walk back to our hotel we were ready for bed. Getting up at 3:30 for a 6:00 am flight leaves you feeling jet lagged even when you don’t change time zones!  Plus, according to my Jawbone UP we logged almost 33,000 steps (14 miles)–no wonder we were exhausted!
