5 Essential Items For The Well-Connected Traveler

The Modern Day Packing List

I am writing this post to avoid my least-favorite part of traveling–packing. I hate deciding what to wear so far in advance, especially when I have business meetings that require professional attire. The easiest part of packing is deciding which electronic devices I need to take with me, but as I started making my list and rounding up chargers, I realized that it is not easy being a well-connected traveler!

5 Essential Items For The Well-Connected Traveler

The number of electronic items I am packing seems excessive, but I don’t think I can do without any of them. Here is my packing list for the well-connected traveler:

1. Kindle Fire HD. A must for in-flight reading and easy YouTube access for hotel room workouts.

Kindle Fire HD — A must for in-flight reading.

2. Garmin Forerunner 10. One of my goals for this trip is to run in at least two of the three cities I will be visiting. I know I could run without my Garmin, but it will be fun to be able to look at my running routes later.

Garmin — For extra motivation to get out for a run.

3. Jawbone UP. This is probably the one device I don’t need to take with me, but it’s also the smallest, so there’s really no reason to leave it at home. Plus, it will give me extra motivation to do what I can when I can (#wycwyc) on the days I don’t manage to get out for a run or use the hotel gym.

Jawbone UP — To track my steps as I explore new cities.

4. Laptop. Since this is a business trip, my laptop is a must, for checking work email, handling urgent projects, and polishing my presentations. I can’t help it if it’s also useful for blogging and social media. 😉

Laptop — So I don’t get too far behind on work.

5. iPhone. This goes without saying, doesn’t it?

iPhone — For keeping in touch, keeping on track, and everything else!

Since I am going to Europe, I also need outlet converters. I hope to get by with two converters, since my Kindle, Garmin and Jawbone UP won’t need much recharging.

Do you mind packing for a long trip?

Are you a well-connected traveler?

  1. I am a well connected traveler and although I don’t have a Garmin or an Up, I do have a Kindle Fire, earphones, a lap top, an iPhone and the most important thing to me are chargers!

    Have a good trip!

Once I forgot my power cord for my laptop. I was so happy to be able to get one at an airport kiosk I didn’t mind forking over $75 (too much)!

I am a well connected human! So when I travel I do stay connected but fight with myself to put the phone away if I am on vacation. It’s so hard. A business trip to Europe sounds like a lot of fun. What countries will you be visiting?

    • Coco says:

Yes, I mostly use my electronics when I’m back in my hotel room – excpet I use my phone for taking pictures when I’m out and about.

  3. I don’t even consider packing my phone – it’s just always attached to me 🙂 Great list, though. Glad you’re having a good trip. Have you been able to run yet?

I also carry an external battery for those times when you just can’t find an outlet (or it’s inconvenient) for your phone! It’s around the same size as my iPhone and shares a connection wire with my Kindle (so I can recharge it in hotels and whatnot). I would highly recommend one of those to any traveler! You just connect you phone (or other device) to it and leave it in your bag. Charging on the go 🙂

If I’m driving I don’t mind as much (I just overpack and call it good!!). Flying – OY!! I hate packing and trying to plan for any type of event and weather and…..
I usually have a bag that is pretty much just electronic – sub out Nook for Kindle on your list and we are pretty much set.

I’d say I’m well connected. I always make sure to bring my charger and usb cable. I don’t mind packing…it’s the unpacking (and the laundry that comes thereafter lol).

Thank you for sharing this one it one, it is helpful and really needed when travelling especially if you wanted to stay connected to the online world.
