Running At Rehoboth Beach

Sunrise Sprints On The Boardwalk

Even when I am on vacation I wake up early. Since my husband likes to sleep a bit later (at least until the sun is up!), it’s a good time for me to go for a run without feeling like I am leaving him behind.

One day I woke up really early.

Running At Rehoboth Beach

Thank goodness the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk is well-lit and very safe.

The boardwalk is exactly one mile long, and our hotel was at the north end.

The perfect place to start my run.

The boardwalk is marked every 1/8th of a mile, so I decided to do a speed ladder.

I warmed up by running 1 mile to the other end of the boardwalk.

The sky was just starting to get light.

I started at the “top” of a ladder and varied my pattern like this:

run fast for 4/8
recover for 1/8
run fast for 3/8
recover for 1/8
run fast for 2/8
recover for 1/8
run fast for 1/8
recover for 1/8
run fast for 2/8
recover for 1/8
runfast for 3/8
recover for 1/8
runfast for 4/8

After my cool-down, I took off my socks and shoes and headed for the ocean.

The tide was pretty far out and the ocean was pretty calm, but I got surprised by a wave that splashed me up to my waist. It felt so good. If my husband weren’t waiting for me to go get coffee, I probably would have gone for a swim.

I took a quick shower to rinse off the sweat, and we headed out for breakfast.

I was glad he was with me to see this view.

Do you sneak out on your own when you are on vacation?

LOVE seeing one of my favorite spots in the world on your blog! I ran on that boardwalk this summer as well 🙂

  3. Yep – every day – especially when we are on a beach – nothing better than watching the sun come up over the water. Love the pictures and your speed workout!

  4. I wish I could sneak off alone on vacation. Since my kids are early morning risers just like their mama, that pretty much has become a thing of the past. I guess I'll have to wait till their teenagers and we won't be able to get them out of bed before noon. Beautiful pics! I would love it!

What gorgeous photos and a gorgeous run. I do sneak out by myself whether it's for a run or to go to yoga.

  6. Rehobeth is so beautiful, I hope to get back there some day. I like that the mileage is marked on the boardwalk. Looks like you had a beautiful run!

  7. I do sneak out! My hubby like to sleep in a little and my body doesn’t know I am on vacation! Beautiful pictures!

  8. Love your pictures! I’ve never been to Rehoboth Beach. It looks beautiful! Nice to have easy mile markers like that. I should try a ladder workout sometime!
