Three Things Thursday (The Trader Joe’s Edition)

Trader Joe’s is a great place to find foods that make healthy eating really enjoyable. Here are my three favorite things to get at Trader Joe’s.

I always stock up on dried fruit and nuts–their prices are amazing! Trader Joe’s is the only place I have been able to find unsweetened dried cherries.

Of course these are great right out of the bag, but I love to use them in a “trail mix” blend with dry cereal (like Cheerios or Fiber One) and chocolate chips.

Around Thanksgiving I noticed these, and I was glad to see that they were still in stock after Christmas.

I am very proud to report that the 9-serving bag lasted a whole week, and I wasn’t the only one eating them–although I may have had 8 of the servings!

Another recent find is roasted baby beets (in the refrigerator section).

The ingredients list is amazing: Beets. One serving is two baby beets (40 calories), but I find that one sliced baby beet is perfect for salad over mixed baby greens.

Trader Joe's really does have a lot of great, affordable healthy options. I like the bagged baby spinach. For $2 I have the basis for salads and other dishes I can take to work for lunch.

I've never been to trader joe's! the way i hear ppl talk about it, it sounds like a cosco – is that right? …i *want* to mix up my own trailmix, but i never do bc i have no self-control when it comes to trailmix and i'd seriously end up substituting it for meals lol

We just got one here (about 45 minutes away)– I can't wait to go check it out. Unsweetened, untampered dried fruits are ridiculously hard to find sometimes! Those cherries look delicious.

I miss Trader Joe's! They don't have one here in Fort Collins. I had so many things I loved there. I loved the individual servings of Omega 3 nut mix–such a great grab and go snack! (http://www.traderjoes.com/fearless-flyer/article.asp?article_id=413). My favorite lunch was the Chile Lime Chicken patties. I would put avocado and salsa on it. Yummy! (http://www.traderjoes.com/fearless-flyer/article.asp?article_id=680). The Tomato Basil Hummus was my daughter's favorite food. I would pack it in her lunch with a spoon and she would eat it like soup. I ate it with pretzel chips.

  6. My hubs LOVES TJ's cherries. I just restocked his stash last night. I always get their nut butters (almond, sunflower seed), soups and cilantro jalapeno hummus. Love TJ's!

I have never been to a Trader's Joe either. I wouldn't think sweet cherries would have added sweetener because they are very sweet! But, I checked my cherries which I presumed were not sweetened and found I had tart cherries sweetened with sugar! I hadn't realized that!! (Thanks Coco.. don't know how they slipped by!) The other cherries I have are "peeled snacks" and ARE unsweetened.

I heart TJ's and am in there constantly! I have not seen those beets though! I love the smoked almonds, amongh many other things. Holy yum!

I love TJ's! So many yummy things there that I can't get anywhere else. I always find interesting things.
