Happy Merry Joy!

I wrote this post on Thursday, before the tragic events in Newtown. I am holding the parents, children, teachers, and friends in my thoughts and prayers–and also remembering others who are facing hard times. It may be too much to ask that they find some joy in this holiday season, but I fervently pray that they feel the love, care, and concern that we are sending their way, and hope that they are able to experience the peace of God which truly surpasses all understanding.

This week is the third week of Advent. In a traditional advent wreath, the third candle is pink and is referred to as the “joy” candle. I was taught that this candle is a lighter color than the others (which are purple) to offer encouragement that Christmas is coming, even though it may seem like it is taking forever to get here.

This year, the third week of advent comes when I am finally getting into the spirit of the season–which is a good thing because Christmas is barely a week away!

We’ve gotten more holiday cards from friends and family.

(Did you see how I made this holiday card garland?)

We went skating at the new outdoor rink in Georgetown.

We put up our Christmas tree.

I am enjoying listening to the 24/7 Christmas song programming on the radio instead of cringing because it’s “too early.”

I have made my list and I’m checking it twice–and getting excited about the gifts I’ll be putting under the tree.

My son is home from college, my daughter will be home tomorrow, and I’m ready to bake some more cookies.

(Did you see the recipes for my ginger spice and eggnog spritz cookies?)

Have you caught the Happy Holidays Merry Christmas Joy To The World spirit?

Prayer for the Third Week of Advent
Bless, O God, the road that is before us.
Bless, O God, the friends who are around us.
Bless, O God, your love which is within us.
Bless, O God, your light which leads us home.
Amen.

…your Christmas looks like it's off to a great start! I've been a little slow-starting getting into the holiday spirit, but your post was definitely inspiring! Think I'll put on some Christmas carols ♥

..my thoughts and prayers also go out to all those affected by Sandy Hook:

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. ♥ 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
