I was excited for my long run this weekend, because my physical therapist has cleared me for 8 mile runs. If I do well over the next two weeks, she will declare that my recovery is complete.
As usual, I set my alarm for 5:00 with plans to meet my friend at 6:00. I knew it was going to be warm, but I was shocked when my weather channel app showed these conditions.
I filled my water bottle with ice and Gatorade and took another bottle of cold water instead of my usual hot coffee for the short drive to our meeting place.
We decided on a shady route and agreed to go slowly. Since it’s been a few weeks since we’ve run together, we had a lot to talk about, and our chatting helped keep us to a comfortable pace.

After our run, I used the gym at my office to stretch, torment my ITBÂ with the foam roller, and do my core exercises (front planks on elbows with my feet on the Bosu!).

Did you have to beat the heat for your workout this weekend?

I. Hid. Inside!!
And learned I need more core work
I was up and out the door by 6:30. The heat this summer has been unreal. I try to plan my routes to make the most of any shade I can find. I fuel up and take it slow.
The only thing I was running from this weekend was my gremlin children. But I did get a nice run in this morning. I overslept but still squeezed it in. Have a good week, my Coco Puff! xo
It's crazy in Texas, feels like you can't even beat the heat at 6am. So I'm learning to take it slow, carry water, and count down til September.
Ah, I can't wait for fall and cooler weather – but then it will be dark at 6:00!
Our high was only in the mid 80s this weekend, so I actually ran in the late afternoon on Sunday. I tend to run whenever I have time, so I just slow down or decrease my distance if it's super hot out.
At this point there is no beating the heat here. It's just awful – 80 degrees with 80+ percent humidity at 5 am??? That should just be illegal! I've even switched my long runs to Friday's before work because I'm more likely to get out at 5 on Friday morning than Saturday
Nice job by the way!
And it is all about the humidity! Really, your sweat can't evaporate and cool you when it is that humid.
Oh good point about that – I never even thought about the sweat not evaporating part – just the "I need gills to breathe" part LOL
It must have been really hot for you to give up a cup of coffee.
Good plan on staying cool. Awesome too on the planks on the Bosu Ball. I thought of you as I was shakily but diligently doing my side planks today.
By the way – thank you so so much for the sweet card. My favorite part about birthdays – the little things. Thank you!
76 isn't THAT hot
It's the humidity, I swear! It was 86% humidity …
