Six At Six

When my physical therapsit cleared me for 6 mile runs, I hoped my friend would be able to join me for a Saturday morning run. We had been running together almost every Saturday until my ITB/glute/pirifiromis issue demanded more attention–and less running–and I have missed that girlfriend time.

(A good friend will pose with you even when
you are wearing an ugly sweater to donate at the start line!)

We agreed to meet at 6:00 am for a 6 mile run, so I set my “weekend” alarm for 5:00 am.

(Ugh!)

When I got up it was pouring, so we debated what to do.

(It was my friend who went back to bed. I tried to walk the dog, but she wasn’t interested.)

The Weather Channel App was right–it did stop raining by about 5:30–so we met at 6:15. Since our usual routes are 7 or 8 miles, we had to improvize a 6-ish mile loop, and ended up going a bit too far. It was cloudy and felt remarkably nice–a breeze kept the humidity at bay and the sun didn’t come out until much later. After our run, we got coffee at Starbucks and sipped those while streteching and chatting.

After all that, I still got home at 8:00! That left me plenty of time to walk the dog, do my core exercises, and make my husband some banana bread–all before he got out of bed!

Do you set your alarm on the weekends?

    and yes.
    kind of.
if by alarm you mean my child—which I do.
    she's always set….

  2. I adore my morning hours. And getting in a 6.5 mile run that early is awesome! (And I love that you baked banana bread too!) Wishing you a great week!

Thanks. My morning mojo fizzled today but I will reclaim it tomorrow. Need to squeeze in a run before it hits 98 again. 😛

  3. I try to get up early for longer Saturday runs. The rain is a tough one! It's always tempting to go back to bed. Glad you still got out and had a good morning!

  4. Yay for a great run! Yes, I set an alarm on weekends to get in an early run. I love the feeling of getting in a long run and doing my whole cool down effort and having it still be early enough to enjoy the whole day.

  5. Oh man, that should be illegal! Kidding 😉 Kind of 😉 haha
I don't typically set a weekend alarm, but I don't set an alarm during the week either – unless I have to wake up SUPER early.

  6. I know I already commented – is it legal to comment again?

I thought of you this morning as I got up to my 5:30 alarm because my friend was picking me up at 6 to go to the gym. My body wasn't impressed with me at the time, but by the time the workout was done, I was so happy I went.

  7. Great job getting back to the 6 miler! Running with a girlfriend really is awesome, especially longer runs where you can chat it up.
