Easy Peanut Butter Kiss Cookies

Even though I make dozens of fancy cookies with my friends at our annual Christmas Cookie Bake-A-Thon, my kids still want me to make a few batches of peanut butter kiss cookies. I really like them too, and since my friend gave me a recipe that is incredibly easy and makes scrumptious cookies, I am happy to oblige.

Peanut Butter Kiss Cookies

The hardest part is waiting long enough to pack them up without eating them all while they are cooling!

Easy Peanut Butter Kiss Cookies

1 package yellow cake mix
1/2 cup water
1 egg
1 cup peanut butter

  • Preheat oven to 350 °F
  • Empty cake mix into a large mixing bowl
  • Add water and egg and blend until well-mixed  (Batter will be very thick)
  • Add peanut butter and blend thoroughly
  • Form dough into balls, roll in white sugar, and space apart on baking sheet
  • Bake for 10 minutes, or until cookies just start to turn golden and crack

While the cookies bake, unwrap chocolate kisses so they are ready to be placed on the cookies as soon as they come out of the oven.

When the cookies are done, take them out of the oven and while they are still on the pan gently press a kiss into the center of each one, hard enough to make an impression, but not so hard as to break the cookie.

Peanut Butter Kiss CookiesRemove the cookies from the pan and placing on a baking rack to cool.

The kisses take a long time to harden, and look hard long before they are, so try to wait a few hours before packing them up or pack them carefully in a single layer.

Hershey’s makes different styles of Kisses these days, but I prefer these with the plain milk or dark chocolate Kisses. That said, if I ever find the caramel-filled ones, I think they would be fantastic in this recipe!

Do you have a cookie recipe you like to make year after year?

Love any cookies with PB! I love Buckeyes too like Mizfit. I prefer not using cakes mixes but I will be doing a similar recipe using oats and no cake mix and chocolate chunks no hersheys kisses. We traditionally make Canadian Xmas cookies every year which is a recipe passed on in my husband's family and also Gingerbread men.

  3. Buckeyes are usually Peanut butter, powdered sugar, and crushed graham crackers mixed together and rolled into balls. Freeze and then dip in melted chocolate! 🙂
